Many of us like to keep tabs on the prototype railroads and while not new to some I would like to share with those that may not be aware of Railway Age..This site offers current news about Class 1s,Short lines and switching roads, saftey etc.

I found it to be interesting reading on today's railroading.

Having seen the news videos of the fires that can accompany crude-oil-tank-car- derailments, I have to take the side of:
" Something " has to be done.
I wouldn't go so far as to restrict speed on the whole line, but I would definitely appreciate speed restrictions through residential areas, or close to high rise buildings. ( if you are on the fifteenth floor, and there is a raging oil fire around the ground floor of that building , regardless of where the oil came from, or how the fire started, YOU, ARE, TOAST ! either before the building collapses, or in the burning rubble after it collapses. ) I would also think Tank TRUCKS,and their drivers, hauling flammables, should have some restrictions, on routes, speeds, and the number of hours they can drive before sleeping, with respect to traffic conditions, and proximity to homes.
I'm not particularly thrilled about the idea that some "Mega-millionaire", is more interested in making even more millions, than in the lives of his/her, potential victims.......especially when the use of just a little caution, common sense, and, just a little less "obscene profit", could spare the families of those potential victims, all the grief, loss, and suffering.

Let us not forget : The ( Expletives deleted ) who was quoted saying, "Let them eat cake", was, in the end, beheaded.
