Geez , Brakie's reference brings back old memories .........got my first computer in about 2002 or so and a friend recommended Railraod Line , Gauge and Atlas as the best forums to join ....so I joined all three . Atlas ?? What a dogs breakfast of arguing and backstabbing . I left immediately . My first experience on RRL was excellent so I stayed over there for many years ......didn't give The Gauge very much attention , unfortunately . I don't like jumping around much and still don't ........I like it here now .

I only look at 2 forums now, Gauge and RMWeb. RMWeb has a much more British orientation, but the Gauge has a lot of friends.

My only problem with multiple postings is with questions to be answered -- should I respond on both forums with the same reply?
....I think Mike's "alligator" is a croc ......... Icon_lol

For the record I grew up in and around the Everglades. Myself and all my friends at one time or another when we were kids kept a pet gator (usually in the 2-4 foot range as those are easy to handle and once they started to get too big we turned them loose). No I don't recommend everybody go out and get one ( not legal anyway ). Many decades ago when I rented, a landlord gave a big speech one day about how there would be no more dogs or cats allowed. However he didn't say anything about gators so as someone who enjoys taking advantage of a loop hole............. To his credit when he found out there was a three footer running loose in my apartment the only thing he said was "I hope you don't expect the exterminator to service your apartment!" Icon_lol Once the joke wore off I took the critter back to the glades and turned him loose.

Some of the advantages of having a alligator for a pet:

1- No need to housebreak em' , they seem to only be able to go when in the water so once a week you put 6 inches of water in the bathtub, place gator in tub and wait until the water turns yellow then pull plug and turn on shower til tub and gator are clean (probably a good idea not to tell your parents you did this.) Icon_lol .
2- Cheap to feed. They only need to eat every month or so ( a three footer would need about an half pound of hamburger in that time).
3- If you let the gator answer the door salesmen and preachers never call a second time! Goldth
I like # 3 Misngth
Yeah T, the look on their faces was always a gut buster! Misngth
I am on several forums, been on this one (original The Gauge) longer than Mikey. Personally I don't give a rat's tail how many forums your on they can be a nice diversion while your waiting for glue to set or paint to dry.

As for posting the very same post on every forum you can get on I find it boring.I may write a post for Big Blue then do a copy and paste on other forums ,but I will make changes before I post it to the forum.

If you look at my post count you will see I am not very prolific when it comes to posting.I will post when someone needs advice with the caution that "This is the way I do it",never will you see me type that my way is the only way to do something (unless there really is only one way to do it).
As for true railroad forums, this is it. I own a Yahoo group for Samoyed owners and Samoyed rescue, and belong to the MRC DCC Yahoo group. I get both groups via email. My Samoyed group is like a second family with 80 members and typically we have a hundred posts a day.
5 years ago I joined facebook and I did not like it, but I joined once again 2 years ago because there was a page that folks were posting old photos of my home town and I wanted to keep up. I found other history sites and I am able to contribute as well as receive many pictures that otherwise can't be found. A fringe benefit too is keeping up with the family that is scattered all over the country.
I have seen many railroad pictures from years ago taken in my area on Facebook and I recommend it if history is your thing. You don't have to join with your real information, and you can set up an email address strictly for use with FB.
If someone wants to post on a hundred sites, that is fine by me. If I was going to those sites and it bothered me I just would not read the posts.

This is a model railroad forum. For a railroad forum, go to Trainorders, Railroadfan, or RYPN.

I get all the true "railroad" forum I need right here I don't care much about the location of the "bar code unit" and some of the made up words a lot of these so called railfans use. I like to watch trains as well as the next guy, but having run a shortline railroad for 14 years I found I just never should have done the job because I just don't know enough according to the real railroad folks on these forums that have never read a rule book, let alone write one.

Well, this is mainly a model railroading forum, but we do have our "real world" forums. But, you're right, our main focus has always been on modeling since that's the direction our members want to go in. I've never been to any of these forums that you mention, but I'll stop by just to take a look.

Amen! And I will add the rules get changed just about every day by the FRA and railroads.

I recently thumb through a 2012 rule book and my take is simple..How in blue blazes can they get any work done and not to mention peeking Pete slinking around to catch crews in violation?

I been hanging with a lot of recently retired railroaders and the majority is glad they retired with their pension intact..
Thanks guys for all the great reply's. I will attempt to get something together for the new layout I'm working on , hope yous enjoy.
I'm just worried about the guy with the lion.
How does he afford to keep a lion and have a Model Railroad hobby/habit at the same time and go to work and pay for it all?
Feeding a Big Cat is going to cost you Big Bickkies or does he have lots of beef cattle around to provide a ready supply?
What about picking up all the lion poop? They are BIG Cats so your going to get Big Poop?
Who gets to clean out the litter box? Do you get kitty litter by the truck load or covered hopper?
Dont ask me to clip its nails. And what about vet bills, the bigger the cat the bigger the vet bills Im guessing.
What happens when the lion goes for an explore on his model railroad? Who is going to be telling who where to get off?
I wont even begin to get started on Alligators.
