This will be an on going documentaion for my new layout. I took down the old layout in jan 2014 and spent quite a bit of time designing the new layout plan. With my past layout I learned alot about what I liked and this newest layout has alot of the old layouts. The new layout has more space from a adjacent room to give added train running. It is a loop to loop with each loop having automation so when a train comes upto a closed turnout it will automaticly open. I'm also attemping to have switching opportunity's. I'm using a digitrax super chief, peco turnouts with tortoise motors controlled by ds64 stationary decoders. The benchwork is open grid type. One thing I did want was the benchwork to be higher so I raised it to be 50 inch at grid level.
You can see the plan posted here is pretty much accurate but is also only a suggestion for industry spurs as these can easy be added as I go.

I won't bore you's with the disassembly of the old layout, what a mess that was.I had taken pics of the new benchwork laid out in the old room.

The benchwork is put up and old mountains put in place, the mountains will be raised higher as I go.

Here is the benchwork in place and railbed for the mainline was routed and sat on the benchwork until I could get the elevations the way I thought would work best.
Starting from the new room and working my way into old room.

First chance I got I started raising the roadbed but there were many changes to be made as my new ideas began to come into play.I wanted a layout that the track would raise and lower with industry spurs , bridges rivers, wharf scene and a tunnel to start with.

I placed a couple of the dios where I thought they would work and cut them into place.

All the elevations has to flow in unison, this was a chore.

It was time to cut a river in for the old waterfall.

Wow, great progress! Thumbsup
Lots of space and a great bench work. I like the idea to save parts of the old layout and place them on the new one. Speeds things up and gives a good impression where you are going to.
Thanks Mike and Reinhard. Having a bit of a time putting together a timeline to where I'm at now but I'm wittling away at it.
Needed a couple bridges to cross the river. A bit of plaster to fill the holes.

More plastercloth for the tunnel and a few ideas for structures.

Every so often as I'm working through the disaster I feel the need to tiny, believe it or not. I got around to getting the stationary decoder board hung from the benchwork, nice and neat.
Filled in the bridge area to left of hill.

Had a few different ideas for the hill area.

Another idea
[Image: IMG_20141108_232557_zps4bb20de3.jpg]

Did a bit of photoshop to get the right perspective.

Building up the elevations for the scene.

A splash from ground goop

The finished scene
[Image: IMG_20141114_135213_zpsffae688a.jpg]
Before I can install any bridges the area close to the bridges needed to be built up , work back to front right?

I made up new water for the old waterfalls as I did care much for the ws watereffects water falls. I simply took clear silicone and made a few long strips with 5 lines each thin using a long screw pulling it together and pulling it downward thinning it out. This was done on a tote plastic lid, let it set for a few days and pulled them off. This is actually two strips one ontop of the other.
And more scenery completed down the line, more ground goop.
