I've seen a layout - may well be O gauge - with photos of it set up on picnic tables at an exhibition - I thought I had a link to it but it may have gone when my previous computer crashed -it was a small country switching yard and the trackplan was something like this. There were several detail photos as well. Please help me to prove I'm not yet going completely round the twist !

Yep...like I said the first time...a classic Timesaver switching puzzle. What else could you possibly do on it?
You are right, and my memory was partly at fault as there wasn't a loop on/from the lower line. As the builder says - if he was starting over it would benefit from the upper siding being converted to two sidings via a diamond, rather than being a kick-back
What was said one time about needing a gymnasium for O Scale 2 Rail?
Gotta like that little switching layout and with some redesign away from the time saver concept it would be fun to operate.
In HO that would amount to a 1'x6' ISL.
