Anyone know where I can get chain CHEAP for this HO Tichy jib crane kit I've had sitting around for years ....didn't realize the chain didn't come with the kit . Does cheapo costume jewelry do the trick ?

Thanks , T
Teejay,
I'm not sure if I can help you, hewever here is a picture and the link to a shop where I purchased a very fine silver chain - 50 links per inch with a wire thickness of 0.008 in.

See on the left the 50 link chain which I installed to an AJAX brake gear in comparison to an ordinary 40 link chain and plastic part from a brake kit.
Click my post on MRH forum where I implemented these fine chain on a hand brake - http://model-railroad-hobbyist.com/node/...ent-206018

Here the Ebay shop if you would be intersted - http://www.ebay.com/itm/231094720901?ru=...26_rdc%3D1
My advice, select lenght 50cm (20 in) and thickness 0,8mm (0.032 in). Thickness of wire is 0.008 in.
Detail Associates #2210 is 12 inches and already blackened and only costs about three dollars at a hobby shop. Unless you are using a magnifier it is pretty hard to tell the difference between 40 and 50 links per inch. You did not say how much is needed on the model?
This just in .... Goldth , happened to mention the chain to my wife and she tells me she's had a broken , unfixable , chain in her jewelry box from before we even met , 24 years ago !! It's mine , all mine !!

Thanks for the suggestions anyhow , guys , much appreciated .

The chain is supposed to be included with the kit - I have two of them and both had the chain as part of the kit.

It's got me to thinking that I bought a 2-pack of these at a train show many moons ago .....no chains , maybe that's why it seemed like a "good deal " Icon_lol Neither kit has the chain right now . ..........just noticed they were repackaged , 2 for $8.95 in Sept 2003 ....guess it's been hanging on the wall a while !

@Prairie Trains,
you did not see these both chains in reality. The difference is visible and remarkable, also without a magnifying glass.

99 percent of all people looking at a model will not even see a brake chain let alone see the difference between 40 or 50 links per inch. Even a contest judge is not likely to get out a magnifying glass and try to count the number of links. No one but the builder of the model is likely to ever notice. Just saying.

Michaels Hobby Stores - the costume jewelry section. If that doesn't work, any place that sells model sailing ships, or check the numerous ads in the railroad hobby mags.
