Well I was working on the last part of my scissor's Cutting's project when I got distracted by the mess in my workshop. It seems that I keep collecting new tools, books and other parts but am quickly running out of room to put them.

My workshop was a bedroom in my basement that I re-purposed. It measures out to 10 X 13'. The left side has my workbench (office desk) and a set of Ikea bookshelves that contain my Model railroader, Model railroad Craftman and other magazine collection as well as other books. Lately that magazine collection has bee spilling out onto the floor.
On the right side was an old dresser and a low cabinet that I used for storage.

I recently got rid of the dresser as it's a rather inefficient way of storing small boxes and such. I want to keep the low cabinet as it's still useful.
In the center of the room is my airbrush booth. it was sitting on a 26" x 66" table that was taking up too much room and I was having difficulty getting around it. So that too was given away. I managed to find the blue stand that you see in the pictures at work (they were just going to throw it away.) I then went to work building a new set of shelves on the right wall.
I built the shelves you see here in a few weekends of work. most of the lumber is salvaged from various shipping crates and pallets that came from work. The taller section's shelves are 2 X 4' with one shelf being used for my miniature drill press and sander.
The narrower shelves are 4' long and 16" deep. they also straddle the lower cabinet.
I still have quite a bit more to put away. and I also need to invest in some trays to put all my model paints. I probably have more that 200 bottles of floquil, scalecoat, polly-s, and model master paint as well as all the rattle cans you see in the photos.
Well I finished cleaning up this afternoon, tackling the workbench. I can tell you that the garbage can is going to be pretty full this week.

Now that it's all cleaned up I thought I'd give you guys a tour.

Starting with the new shelves I added a shelf for my ancient laptop. It's at least 10 years old (running windows XP)
It's not hooked up to the internet. Mostly I use it for reference photos when I'm working or run a movie on it's DVD player.
The Shelving itself holds my paint can collection, as well as the magazines I couldn't fit on the bookcase.
the deeper shelves hold more paint and my paint stripping materials on the top shelf, and my drill press, disc sander, and other tools on the next shelf. I added some plywood shielding to the sides of this shelf so that the debris doesn't fly everywhere.

the next two shelfs hold boxes of parts and some projects that are in various stages of completion. I managed to get all these brown boxes from work that are just the right size to hold and HO engine or car lying on it's side. Other boxes hold my decal collection, MDC kit parts among other items.
On the very bottom is the two trays holding the majority of my bottled paints.
One tray holds Testors and Modelmaster as well as all my floquil paints. the other holds Scalecoat, Tamiya, Humbrol and some miscellaneous paints and stains. I have a green cabinet below my workbench that holds Polly-S, Model master Railroad Acrylics, and craft acrylic paints. There's probably 300+ bottle in all.
And the workbench.
I can actually put things down on it now without stacking on other things.
In the very top are all the kits that I've been collecting that will be built someday (yeah, right)
In the right shelves are some hardboard trays containing projects that I'm currently working on, the left slots hold more Polly-S and Model master acrylic paints as well as all the glues and adhesives that I use. the drawers on the right hold tools.

Finally my airbrush setup. I'm not sure the origin of the spray booth. It looks professionally made but I inherited it from another modeller. I have it venting outside through the window. I had a 3/4" piece of plywood cut to fit in the window tracks. Under the booth is my airbrush compressor and a few tools. You can see the two Cary S-2 models waiting for their paint.
Great Stuff!!!! I try to organize my shop/work area at least a few times a year.
OK I'm going to need you to stop by my place ... I have a job or two for you.

How long is that going to last?
Cheers, the (green with envy) Bear. Wink
Glen, where do you find the boxes for the magazines?

Cheers

Or one that prefers a clean work area.. I've always keep my work desk tidy so, I can use all the space on a current project and I do each project one at a time until its finished.

Translation.

Years ago my late wife gave me a ultimatum if I wanted my work desk in the dinning room I best keep it neat looking or she would .. Eek

Even though my work desk is in my man cave,I keep it neat and tidy.

It's an old joke in my family My father had OCD.

Sorry you didn't get it.
Thanks everyone.
Andy, the magazine folders came from a mix of Staples, Office Depot and Ikea. They come flat and you fold them to shape.
I have good luck finding plastic magazine file boxes at Goodwill and Salvation Army for less than a dollar each. Best day was bringing home 10 from one stop. They are a little narrower than the folded cardboard variety, and therefore hold fewer magazines each, but seem to hold up better over time.

MM,I got it but,I recalled seeing photos of work benches so cluttered I wondered how they manage to get anything done.
