I've had these two classic Plasticville small stations since I was a kid in the early 70's. They were originally white for a long time and then one day I painted them Jade Green to fit my Penn Central theme. As you can see I attempted to make one look abandoned. I removed them from the layout some time ago because I was dissatisfied with their appearance but I still kept them since I'm reluctant to throw away anything with decent looking windows. Smile

A few days ago I got an idea to salvage the stations by "bashing" them into a switch tower, placing one on top of the other. A staircase, some railing, and a few odd details completed the transformation that I'm now happy to place back on the layout. I'm making some cosmetic changes in the area where the tower will be located but I'll post a pic once its in place.

Ralph that looks Excellent!! I would be proud to display that on my layout Thumbsup Misngth

I really like the electrical boxes and the wires/piping running to/from them, nice details Thumbsup Thumbsup
Thanks Josh! The boxes and conduit were details inspired by pictures of jmarksbery's work. Jim often thinks to include details like this that just seem to make his structures look so much more realistic. I sorted through my box of leftover doo-dads for the little touches. Now I need to get off the easy chair and finish the area where the tower will be "planted". Popcornbeer

Excellent bash! Nicely done indeed! Worship

I've got a couple of those little stations in the kitbash bin awaiting some sort of transformation. Now I have a bit more inspiration to draw from!

How did you treat the bay window side?

Also, don't forget reduce! (along with recycle and reuse). We can't purchase and consume our way out of this financial/energy crisis!

Hi Galen,

I was originally thinking of using the bay window side as the "front" but after tinkering a bit decided to go the easy route and used the backs of the stations as the front of the tower. Since the side of the tower with the bay windows won't be visible when its on the layout I really didn't do much with it. Smile

Ralph
That is some very creative work!
Looks Grat Ralph. Cheers
Here's a photo of the tower on the layout near the Williams Yard locomotive facilities and the entrance to Kings Port Steel.

That looks right at home there Ralph. Nice work! Cheers
Excellent, Ralph! Gives me the impression of big-time railroading in a gritty industrial area. Looks like a good place to railfan!
