Greetings, gang.

Cloudy and 64 at the moment but it's supposed to clear off and get to the low 80s by this afternoon.

Headed out the door soon to see the Big Boy in Des Moines. Then late afternoon will find me back to my Thursday group for the first time in almost a month. Tomorrow I'm going to try and catch the Big Boy on the high trestle west of Boone, IA.

All stay safe.

Tom
Good Thursday morning to you all, wow!, Thursday already, weeks go whizzing by when you're having fun, so they say anyway....

Temps stayed down in the mid-90's yesterday, cool but humid. Storms downed some large trees over on the east side, but not much going on here. Not sure if we had any storms last night here or not, we had a busy day and slept through them if there were any. Not sure about today, some chance of rain in the forecast, but forecasts can be way off this time of the year, storms can just pop up out of nowhere, I guess that's why it's our monsoon season, with haboobs, our new term for "dust storm". I don't think us old-timers will ever get use to those terms.... Nope

Tom, wish I could join you, we don't have things like that around here. Phoenix, the six largest city in the US doesn't even have regular rail service anymore.
Tom,
I too wish I could join you. I am looking forward to some pictures though.  I hope I can see it next year. I have pretty much had to cancel all plans for long didtance travel because of doctors appointments.
Big day planned, set out the trash and mow grass. Maybe I can fix the scanner antenna on my truck too, it needs better coax.
Cheers
Charlie
Picture up in the weekly photo thread. Hard to get a clear shot with all the people milling about. I'm going to try a place west of Boone where it crosses a high trestle. I was talking to a guy who had been chasing it since Chicago. He said that every gravel road crossing had several people lined up watching it so I don't know if I'll be able to get a clear shot. Will try for a video also.

Wifey left on new Caddy [519 miles and 2 weeks old] early.  Got 3 miles up bypass and it blew what I thing is a trans cooling line.  Carried her the CRV [as she called in a tizzy].  She had Master Gardeners headed to Wilson NC.  Got lady friend to pick me up at the scene.  We went to our meeting.  Got back to dealership at 3 PM.  Took 30 minutes to get new Caddy loaner.  Tired.  Wifey mad.  Saying they can have it.  We'll see.
Good morning all, rain up in the high country, nothing here yesterday. None in the forecast for another few days, then a good chance for most of next week. Still, nothing is certain when they're calling it during our summer storm season (I'm tired of saying, "Monsoon" and "Haboob", they seem so out of place).

Frank, had the same thing happen, picked up our new Pacific at the dealer some 35 miles away, and it stalled on the way home. The next day had a check engine light and it went back to the dealer for three weeks until the right part was put in (got a new Pacifica as a loaner). Got it back, and a few weeks later, it started to leak fluid. Back to another dealer for another few weeks waiting for parts. This dealer sent me to a rental place for a loaner. My problem was that I was an early adapter on a brand-new model. Should have waited until all the bugs were worked out, but I've had few problems since then. Good luck on the Caddy....
Greetings, gang.

Another sunny and pleasant day in store for the remote reaches of northern Iowa. 63 right now headed for 79 later in the day with some scattered clouds. Good day for some photography.

Went to see the Big Boy yesterday. Very large crowds. Today I'm headed to an "undisclosed location" to see if I can get some shots of it in action.

Frank - sorry about the car. I've been very fortunate in the last several cars. Very minor problems easily (for the most part) resolved.

All stay safe.

Tom
Morning.  Mid 80's today with 60% chance of showers.  Some got rain yesterday.  Not us.  Farms did.  Icon_e_biggrin

No word from Caddy dealer.  Wifey's friends and sister need to stay out of it.  They seem to hand out their suggestions.  Icon_rolleyes

Not anything on agenda [as of yet  Applause ].

Later.
high and dry here already at 99 , calling for 109 today . looks like  another day spent in the pool  Applause  or at the modeling desk  Icon_e_smile
Greetings, gang.

Partly cloudy and 65 this morning with a predicted high in the low 80s and light breezes. Looks to be a good day for a bike ride.

Had a blast chasing the Big Boy yesterday. While waiting for it I had a nice conversation with several other like-minded crazies. We were all nervous as there was a container train parked on the double track trestle. From where we were we couldn't tell which track it was on. It all worked out well in the end. I was thinking about heading to its next destination but the way hordes of people were thinking the same thing I decided the risk from the crazy drivers wasn't worth a few pictures.

On tap for this morning is an early trip to Walmart before things get crazy. It's a tax free weekend for clothing and the stores are always busy. No other plans for the day.

All stay safe.

Tom
Morning.  Had rain.  Foggy this AM.  Cooler.  Nothing on agenda.  Wifey at college getting theater going.

Jim, enjoy the relaxing day.

Tom, good Big Boy viewing.

Have a good one.
Good morning, seems like everyone is enjoying their lazy days of Summer. Hard to believe, but some districts have already started school, most will start this Monday. I remember as a kid, we'd go back the day after Labor Day giving us over 10 weeks of vacation. I guess kids here get just about the same amount of time, just that they start and end early.

If there's anything in this world that's set against me, it's batteries. This time it's the golf cart. It's been sitting in the garage and I let some of the cells dry out of some of them (there are seven total). If it's not that, it's a drill battery, my cell phone, or one of the smoke detectors. I have a storehouse full of replacements, but not for the golf cart.... Nope
Hello Blue
For some reason Blue is not playing nice this morning.
We have had some very comfortable summer days in the 80s. But we do need some rain. All the Mich. rain has missed us lately.
Don I totally agree on batteries, always a PITA.
S.J.
Greetings, gang.

Sunny and warming quickly. 79 now headed for the mid 80s. Storm chances tomorrow afternoon and evening.

Got my shopping done early yesterday and avoided all the crowds. Then went for a bike ride. After lunch I cleaned the chain on my bike and worked some more on the shed. Got as much dirt moved as I want now. Monday afternoon storms should show whether my plan is successful.

Watched a pretty good F1 race this morning and may watch NASCAR on a road course this afternoon. It used to be much more entertaining than it is now with all the ringers and temporary drivers. Up next is a bike ride.

All stay safe.

Tom
Afternoon.  Hot and humid.  Back from Church and gro.  Wifey is cooking bacon for BLT's.  Got lots of tomatoes.  Hot peppers coming off.  Scuppernong grapes beginning to turn ripe.  Got lots this year.

DAZ, golf cart batteries are not cheap. Nope

Have a great week ahead.
