Good afternoon folks

Happy New Year!

Retirement has been a busier time than I anticipated. We have been having a great deal of work done to the house and this has kept me from doing any major work on the layout. Now that most is finished, I hope to start working on cleaning the basement and area around the layout.

My father-in-law has been in a nursing home since mid-June. His level of care got to appoint where he could no longer stay at home. At first, he was getting better but over the last month or so he has started to decline. We have expected this and were concerned at one point if he would live through the summer. He is not talking at times and eating irregularly. Sometimes he knows us and at other times he does not. Unfortunately, we are in the process of transitioning him to hospice care at this time.

Getting back to trains and such I took some quick photos of one section of the layout that is easily accessible. I will try to post them when I can.

I hope everybody has a good day.
Just stopped by to say Happy New Year!!!

Tom:
Sorry to hear about your Father-In-Law...
Hope everything goes well for him.
Good morning all, yeah Tom, I often say that I wished I was back at work again, I seemed to have more free time back then.

Our forecast was for rain all this week, but that changed about a week ago and it's been dry ever since. They are saying that the official Phoenix 2019 rainfall was under 6", two inches short of the average. However, if they average all the rain gauges in the area, we are closer to 10", well above average and goes down as one of the wettest years on record. The one that counts though, is at the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport. Regardless, even 10" is dry by most standards.

And as predicted, our neighbors let us know when it was midnight on New Years Eve. They fired off a few rounds around 8, again at 10, an a real barrage at 12. Some of them must have overbought and decided to use them up between 1 and 2 in the morning. That must have been one heck of a party....
Greetings, gang.

Clear and 33 headed for sunny and 40. Slight chance for some light snow Friday night and Saturday.

Slow day yesterday. I went for a walk for about 2 miles. It was a little breezy on the way but on the way back the wind was behind me so it wasn't too bad. No news yet from my daughter. Doctors probably aren't even out of bed yet.

Welcome back, Tom. Sorry about the struggle with your dad.

All stay safe.

Tom
Hello Blue
Cloudy as usual, 40 for the day.
We had a quiet holiday at home. Watched the Rose parade and had some good home cooked food.
The guys are talking April York but I'm gonna pass.
S.J.
Morning.  49 and going to 60's.  70 tomorrow with some rain from the Gulf later.  Off and on rains through Sat.  [better than snow from the north]

Last night, country ham biscuits, turnip greens and blackeyed peas.

Prayer for Tom's Daughter.

NBC says National Buffett Day.  Go celebrate.

More cleaning and hauling to dumpster site.

Have a good one.
Good evening folks

Finally sitting down at the computer and not doing banking, emails, or researching the next home project. Spent most of the day running about. Had to pick up a birthday present for my wife. Her birthday is Sunday. Did the online pick up in store thing. Thought it would be fast and I guess it would have been if the person at the counter knew how to use the computer. Had to do the online order pick up in the store thing again this evening. This time it was for pet food. Walked in, pressed the button, employee came over asked my name, employee retrieved order, signed for order, and on my way. In and out in less than 5 minutes.

Tomorrow is more running. Have to stop at the courthouse and drop off guardianship paperwork for my wife. She was appointed her father's guardian back in 2018 and every year she has to file paperwork regarding his income and expenses. After that I am off to the grocery store.

Not sure when any trains will be involved. I recently got a PROTO 1000 Pennsylvania Reading Seashore Line RDC I would like to fiddle with and perhaps take a few photos.

I hope everybody has a good night.
Good morning everyone, a bit chilly early, but suppose to get into the 60's today and into the foreseeable future. Rain in the forecast starting about mid-week. I'll skip the % since they're all over the map.

Getting some progress on my layout, still not able to spend enough time in one session to be meaningful. Sometimes I get just a few minutes, sometimes a whole hour. Appointment and other things just eat into my leisure time. Yup, retirement isn't always what it's cracked up to be.

Interested in Spring Training? Ticket counters here in Surprise are open now. The Texas Rangers have a new building for housing. Rather than putting the team up in hotels, they have their own facility. Not sure, but guessing that they have mini-apartments for each one. There's an odd detached two story building there as well that I'm not sure what it is, it's not parking, possibly storage... don't know. Maybe they'll have a grand opening and we will find out what's there. There's enough room there for a very large train layout, then again, maybe I'll just stop wondering about it... Waiting
Greetings, gang.

31 and cloudy at the moment with and inch or two of snow and a high of 34 predicted for the next 24 hours.

Daughter is home from the hospital. Tentative diagnosis is pseudo seizures. Medication is controlling it nicely. Not allowed to drive until she sees her regular physician next week.

This morning I'm headed to Walmart and Menards. This afternoon I'll be helping my grandson and others help move the rest of his folks stuff from the old to the new house.

All stay safe.

Tom
Morning.  Cloudy and 50.  Suppose to go to70 and rain later.

Wifey's Sister's Hubby's father died.  No word on what and when.

Will reclean [Clorox] the front stoop and etc. before the rain comes.

Squirrels will not stay out of feeder today.

Hope all have a great day.
Greetings, gang.

24 and the snow plows are out. High for today is supposed to be in the low 30s. Got about 3-4 inches of snow since yesterday afternoon. About 30 miles north of me they got almost 9 inches of snow.

That snow cancelled our moving efforts yesterday. Roads were pretty slick. No plans for moving today either. I did get all my errands run yesterday but went 0 for 5 in the auto parts stores. I need a new air filter and none of the five had one in stock. Also got the bills paid yesterday so I can live in the house for another month. Nothing major on the agenda for today.

All stay safe.

Tom
Good morning on this first weekend of the new year. For some reason, I've heard two reports on the news about not abbreviating the year, no 1/1/20, must be, 1/1/2020. They said something about the computers will add up the numbers if you abbreviate. Beats me, it's worked all these years, why not now?

Temps starting in the high 30's here, heading to close to 70 by this afternoon. Now that's more like it. Lots to do around here this month, there's. Phoenix Open golf, a bunch of auto auctions, Arabian horse shows and lots more. The one thing we don't have in the winter is one of those traveling train shows. Nope, for some reason, when they do show up, it's in the summer when it's 115 out, when most of the locals don't want to go anywhere in that heat, and all the snowbird train buffs have gone home. That never made sense, and they probably wonder why Phoenix isn't a good show location.
Morning all.  Rainy and 58.  Busy cleaning house.  State Senate candidate announcement here in our house tomorrow.  well. got compounded.  Wifey's BrohterIL's Dad's funeral and her close friend's Dad's suneral at the same time as the announcement is here.  WOW.  Will do the BrotherIL's visitation and rush back here from across the county to great folks here.

Don, could be like the change of the century thingy.  Some predicted the computers would crash.

Have a good one.

Hang in there Frank, sorry about your relatives, hope you can get though all that's on your plate right now.

From what they're saying, somehow, they can "add" a couple of digits to that and come up with "2017 or 2018".... Now, they did say "add" and then showed "subtract", Waiting and followed with, "it hasn't happened yet, but could". Typical supposition, You're right, probably the same folks that started the Y2K craze....
Greetings, gang.

Clear and 37 at the moment headed for windy and 42 later in the day. Winds could hit 40 mph.

Quiet day yesterday. I didn't accomplish anything. Today I need to do laundry and pack. Leaving tomorrow to take care of my son. He's having surgery Tuesday for more cancer in his mouth. Don't know how long I'll be there. Participation here may be spotty.

My daughter posted a better explanation of why she was in the hospital. According to her Facebook post it was "a reaction to severe sleep apnea." A new Cpap machine will be investigated after a sleep study. Also some anxiety due to a number of other events in her life at the moment.

All stay safe.
