Good morning folks

It is a rainy 50. They say it will top out at 63. It is one of those cold rains.

After I dropped my son off, I went to Kohl’s to pick up an online order. Then went across the big macadam space to Boscov’s Department Store. The wife wants a new dustpan and brush. She wants the one with the long handle. I bought one only to find out at home the dustpan does not have a handle.

Getting out of the parking lot was a chore. I am on the loop road and some boomer princess pulls out of the parking area without looking. I slammed the brakes on and swerved barely missing her and almost hitting the guide rail. The guy coming the other way almost T-boned her, but he missed and wound up on an island. She stopped and gave both of us a dirty look and then merrily continued on her way.

Got home and discovered we are out of blue and red ink. Headed to Staples and found out they have a company shortage of blue and yellow. At home I checked Micro Center, Amazon, Office Depot, Walmart, Best Buys, and Target. They all were out of it. I even went to HP’s online store and found nothing. I finally found it on eBay. Ironically, the combo pack was in stock at HP’s eBay Store.

After dinner I took the wife to drop off her ballot. Now both her and I have voted.

No trains last night. I am hoping for tonight.

I hope everybody has a good day.

Sun and 50s today. At wake up it was 34.
I have been getting my haircut at home. My wife has done a good job and I'm more than happy with her cuts.
We still only go out when necessary.

Why wouldn't she.  Only one hair to cut.  Icon_rolleyes
Good evening all.
I  spent some time editing photo scans from old steam locomotive photos. some were dated 10/14/1921 and some even 10/15/21. Makes me really think.
I have a bunch more to scan but I am trying to scan the back where there are notes and then merge them with the photo.  The fellow that made this collection died in 1938.
I downloaded some great horned owl calls and I want to play them out side to see if I get answers. I have heard them in the woods behind us, and my wife saw one at dusk Tuesday night.
Looks like a cool one here tonight but a rather nice week end predicted.

        Cheers

Greetings, gang.

Partly cloudy and 51 in the remote reaches of northern Iowa this morning. The high for today is supposed to be a windy 68.

The gym went fairly well yesterday. I was able to do most of the resistance machines although at a much reduced weight. But progress is being made. Got the storm windows cleaned and installed. Had to time the installation as the wind was gusting up to 30 mph. I would wait til the wind died down and hurriedly carry a window to the porch. Tried to decide what to fix for supper. Finally gave up and drove through a local burger joint.

Today will see another assault on the yard. I should be able to get the leaves cleaned up and hauled away. Big question is whether to do it in the morning with a south wind or wait til the afternoon with a north wind. I think I'll go with the south wind . With the north wind temperatures could be dropping rather rapidly. Enough rambling for today.

Charlie - thanks for taking the time to scan and post those pictures. I love looking into someone else's past.

All stay safe.

Tom
Good morning group.
We had our first frost last night so sweet corn season is over. Every year I feel I didn't have it often enough so this year I had it at least 3 days a week in season, and it was so darned good. I still don't think I had it enough.  Icon_e_biggrin.  I got a peck bag of golden delicipus apples and I have been snacking on them. despite our near drought conditions they are very sweet and very juicy.

Last night I tried to listen for the owl I have heard before but it was just too cold, too quick for me to sit out.

May work in train barn tonight or scan more pictures.  In addition to the locomotive collection I bought I still have a couple thousand family photos to do and my cousin has another batch for the Historical Society.

Greetings, gang.

Cloudy and 36 outside my window this morning headed for a high of only 46 with clearing skies this afternoon.

Had a pretty good day yesterday. Got another herd of leaves rounded up and hauled away. After lunch I somewhat foolishly got the bike out and went for a ride. Coming home was a struggle fighting the wind. Then got the laundry caught up and got a haircut. Today will not be nearly as productive.

All stay safe.

Tom
Good morning all. To start with, I'd like to thank you all for your support, prayers and understanding. I don't wish on anyone what I've been going through the past few weeks, nay, the past few years for sure, but, I'd do it again if I had to. As some of you know, there's a big adjustment to deal with and a bit more planning for the immediate future. I'm doing OK, just with all the phone calls and the sleepless nights, I'm worn out.

Of all things, BCBS Advantage is sending a PA to give me a checkup and medical review tomorrow. I was going to cancel, but thought that it's probably not a bad idea to do it right now. I can't discuss plans with her (or him), but I do want to change. My current plan has a monthly premium, but they have other new plans that are better and with lower co-pays and have no premiums. I haven't a clue why or how they do that.

I tend to ramble on sometimes, excuse me when I do, but that's why we have what we do here. I miss the Zoom chats, I may try to put one together later this week. I need to get back into a routine of sorts.

Thanks again guys, it means a lot....

Good morning.
It's good to hear from you Don, and I will look forward to a chat anytime you want.  I am sure loneliness will be the worst thing you have to conquer.  After losing a life partner that is expected.  You have lots of support here, but it takes more than we can provide. We will do what we can.

Charlie
Better get moving.  Computer Church was good.  Slept good last night.  Been lazy this AM.  Rifle to wipe down.  Hunting was not the best.  Only does and not many of them.  Enjoyed the outdoors and the woods.  Better next weekend.

All have a great and safe week ahead.
Greetings, gang.

36 and cloudy outside my window this morning. The high for today is supposed to be around 40 with a chance for rain.

Yesterday was a day of rest. Only major activity was going for a walk in the afternoon. This morning I have my first massage session. Curious to see how it will go.

Don - good to see you posting again. We're here for you.

Tom
Good morning.
Rain for the next 4 hours or so so the yardwork gets postponed. I guess I will have to play with the trains.  Ohio has 1100 new cases of Covid with 53 hospitalizations. I don't think that is a bad percentage but the morning news acted like it was the apocalypse. Our local hospital has over 100 empty beds so there shouldn't be lack of space in a state as big as us.

I found a you tube video that explained the problem with my BLI centipedes stalling (I think I mentioned it in a chat). The repair that was suggested was a conductive grease but I want to see if I can do it without using that. The pickups are on 8 axles for each unit and they use a brass contact over the axles. [attachment=34963]
I am thinking there must be some way to make this a more positive contact. I can't imagine why something like this even has a slight chance of losing contact but it does. I have some sintered bronze wire that may do the job.

Have a grand day everyone. Best wishes to all.
Charlie
Good morning folks

It is 51 going to 68.

Did some outdoor work this weekend. Planted some mums and realized we need a few more. I will try to get them this afternoon. Bought and installed a new air pump and air stone for the pond. This is the first step in getting it ready for winter.

I finished weathering seven boxcars. I did not get a chance to run any trains, however. I had won a Proto 1000 PRSL RDC about a month ago. When I tested it, it did not run. I emailed the seller and we tried a couple of things but they did not work. Since I wanted the RDC due to its rarity I even asked about sending it back and having him fix it and return it which I would pay for. He declined and we went through the return process and he refunded my money. He fixed it and relisted it, which he notified me. I won the auction a second time. This time for $13 less. The RDC now runs fine.

I have running to do today. There is the pharmacy, nursery, and grocery store. Tonight, more weathering.

Any thoughts on another zoom chat?

I hope everybody has a good day.
Hello Blue
Wet 43/51 for today. A lite mist is in the air.
No big news, we don't go anywhere unless it's needed.
But I wanted to check in.
S.J.
Good morning all. A bit chilly right now, low temps are normal, mid-60's, highs are about 10 degrees above normal, high-90's. And yes, we did have a few more 100+ days last week bringing the total to a new record of 145 days of 100° or higher.

So much for the weather, going to have some busy days for the next two weeks planning my wife's funeral, something I never thought I'd have to or wanted to do.

I'm open to host another Zoom chat, can do something later this week, does everyone prefer a weekday evening or Saturday afternoon? I can do either, but Saturday afternoon would be my choice. Give me some feedback....
Slept late.  Then country ham biscuits and grits [with ham gravy].  Now to get going.  Taking pickup to mechanic and give instructions on how to set gear lash on steering box.  Something he should have done 2 years ago when it was installed.  He has been messing with the steering for two years.  Finally got to talk to him and show him.  Seems they write it up and he didn't understand.

Tax hearing tomorrow and Wednesday.

Have a good week.
