OK, those 100% forecasters were finally right. It has been raining here for a while now, so I am no longer cynical, well for today anyway. Icon_rolleyes

SJ, most traveling train shows in our area are busts. Why, well, because they hold them in the summer when it's 110+ out. Why not in the winter when they can take advantage of our nice (but rainy) weather? I worked for a large company and for some reason, we always seemed to have out of state customers come here for a "factory inspection", of technical discussions during the winter months, never saw one show up in the summer.
I ordered a HP desktop all-in-one Windows 10 PC to be used in parallel with the Apple iMac.
Our Apple hardware is getting more and more outdated. The current Apple hardware (iMac, iPhone and iPhone) does not really match our requirements but the Apple world is quite closed and it is hard to escape. I think two systems in parallel open a very smooth migration path to have the best of both worlds. We will see what is on our desks in three years ;-)

ps. It is amazing how much PC you get for the money outside the Apple world.
Don I don't blame them. I would show up during the winter months as well.

Not to mention all of the great free software that is available.

52 and fair for right now.  Actually got to shirt sleeve weather around noon.  Out early and home by 5:15.  Then out to dinner up the street.

Later.
Good morning all, looks like another damp one here. Not only did it rain all day, but a bit after noon, we had hail, small chunks but lots of it for around ten minutes. I took a few shots out our front door and garage, too intense to go out in it. Rain is in the forecast for most of today, then clear sailing with temps back in the 70's next week. Good thing too since they've already had to cancel a few Spring Training games. I hope that the MLB teams don't start asking for covered practice fields and threaten to move to another state if they don't get them, like they do during the regular season (including football, basketball and hockey teams).

Oh, and Flagstaff got a record one-day snowfall yesterday, 31.6", and we did get snow a far south as Cave Creek in the northern part of our valley. It happens every few years and if you're lucky, you'll get to take a photo of snow on a cactus before it goes away in about a half-hour, just like our hail did....

Greetings, gang.

Hazy and 7 right now with an expected high in the upper 20s. Freezing drizzle, sleet, rain, freezing rain, snow, and wind all start this evening ans last til Sunday morning.

Don - I'm guessing they have your train shows in the summer for the same reason we have train shows in the winter - it's just not pleasant being outside at that time of year. I hope your van didn't suffer any damage from the hail.

Reinhard - I'm on my second all-in-one. Really like the lack of wires cluttering up the area. The first one is kept up for grandkids who want to play games, etc.

All stay safe.

44 and raining again.  Been 44 for hours.  May hit 70 by weekend.  Up and down.  Rain and shine in every day.

Nothing on agenda [I hope].  Being lazy for a change this week.

Since rain, probably do some work in Train Box.

Guessers say folks up north to get some strong winds.

Have a good one.
Winds and rain on the way. Better than the 2" of snow Wednesday including ice ewwww
Greetings, gang.

Foggy and 32 with some freezing drizzle/mist. Blizzard warning for tonight and tomorrow with 8" of snow and 45 mph winds.

Gym yesterday morning and laundry yesterday afternoon. Nothing planned for today other than watch the storm and keep the sidewalk clean. I'll have to keep an eye on it because when the snow first starts it will be close to freezing and the snow will be wet and heavy. As the temp drops that will freeze and make it very difficult to remove. After the temperature drops the snow won't be a problem.

The city is removing the dam in the river. Built in the early 1900s to generate electricity but shut down in 1970. Went down Thursday afternoon and happened to get there just as the dam was breached. It will be interesting to see how the river changes without the dam.

All stay safe.

Records broken, Phoenix broke a 122-year old record for the lowest high for that date. 51 was the old record, it didn't get over 47 on Thursday. Flagstaff's snow reached 35.9" for one day, and all-time record giving them 40" of new snow in two days. Snow got as low as north Scottsdale, again, rare, but it does happen. No blizzards like in other parts of the country, but intense for us nonetheless.

What drives me crazy is the TV news people, they send hordes of reporters, cameramen and other support people up into the snow areas, then tell us that the state highway dep't is asking people not to come up there. Well, when every major station in the state sends a few dozen people there, you have to wonder why they don't heed their own advice and stay home....
Raining and raining.  Is suppose to stop by noon tomorrow.

Not much on agenda.  Need to run some errands.  Train Box work I didn't get to yesterday.  Ended up at Town Hall most of afternoon.

DAZ, got rifle forum buddy that lives in AZ.  She is near Mexican border [can hear gun fire in distance over border] and mountains in far distance.  Not near anything.  She calls it the raggedy edge.  15 to 20 miles or so from nearest town.  She has lots of snow.  Unusual.

Tom, stay in and stay warm.  Bet fish can now swim up river to spawn.

All have a good one.
Frank, the Tucson police did a funny pitch on TV "investigating" the unknown white stuff that was falling from the ground. They had crime tape around a snowman and were taking samples of the snow to send to the lab for analysis. It's probably somewhere on the Internet but I haven't looked. I should, seems as if the local TV reporters were busy chatting among themselves and blanked out most of the audio. Icon_mad Yeah, they did get snow down south and probably around the border. We did have the storm of all storms for two days here and I enjoyed every bit of it. The Snow Bowl up in Flagstaff now has 107" of base snow for skiing. The good thing is going to be with the spring runoff, we are low on reserve water supplies, this will be a big help.
Got my new HP Windows PC yesterday. Made a lot of setup to let it join the Apple infrastructure with email etc. Added a second SSD to clone the system for easy recovery and restart in case of failure. That did not work. The HP specific secure protection and the Macrium program did not coexist in peace. At the end was the PC dead and could not even boot the recovery partition.
It was a 12 hour PC session and I noticed that it is not any longer my hobby. It was a very annoying task I do not want to repeat.
The PC is packed, will be send back tomorrow (30 full refund for all online deals under German law). I will stay with Apple as a stupid "user". No further intentions be an expert. My hobby is model railroading :-)
The sun is shining on a wonderful Sunday!
Good morning all, beautiful day yesterday, chilly, but clear and dry. Spring Training games were in full swing (pardon the pun)...

Reinhard, it's a wonder any computer runs with all that's going on inside. Programs will clash and lock a computer up, be it a PC or an Apple. I remember way back in the dawn of the computer that they normally did one task only and some were so large you could walk into it and sit down if the heat from the vacuum tubes didn't get to you. Computers still can only do one thing at a time, but they bounce between tasks so fast it appears as if they're doing several things at once, so it's amazing that they work when they do. One hiccup and you're locked out and in this age, it should never be that way. I don't blame you for your frustration. I bought a new PC about a year ago and I still haven't moved everything over. It also runs Win 10, but a different manufacturer, so it has a learning curve different from the one I've been using for the past eight or ten years. I guess the, "go with what you know", philosophy is the best approach.
