Sorry to hear that & heck even at 31 i found myself a old office chair ( about 18 inches from floor to seat ) and took the back off it and use that as my get a round buggy in the basement Icon_lol

Re: My Strip mine project - Lester Perry - 06-02-2010

that is probably better than what I have on a hard floor. This only goes in a straight line. I tried a shop stool but on carpet it won't move. I carpeted it with real good thick padding because walking on concrete is uncomfortable if you are on it for any length of time.

I realize this is really a "side topic" distraction from the original intent of this thread, but ... Icon_lol

I have acute COPD ... that makes getting up and down and crawling around quite a chore. Therefore, "Ground Zero" on the now-under-construction (again ... fifth time) Lehigh Susquehanna & Western is 54" above the deck. So that I don't have to kneel down and stand up very often, I went out to the garage and came back in with ...

Which sells for about $30.00 U.S. The height is adjustable as the vertical support is a gas spring. It works very well, has a tool tray and is very mobile. I recommend it, especially on hard floors (My house has Terrazzo floors.)

i had to get another one for the garage. Smile

I have one of those also. It was my first purchase but not good on carpet. I have thought about trying some different wheels.

Re: My Strip mine project - Russ Bellinis - 06-03-2010

Les, you would want very large wheels to roll over carpet. The best bet would be to weld up or have welded a drop center frame with the wheels mounted outboard of the base of that stool. That way the stool can sit a couple of inches off the floor to keep it from being too tall for you to manuver under the benchwork, but some 5 or even 7 inch wheels should roll very easily over even shag carpet.

Well what I have is working. It might not be perfect but it works

Lester Perry Wrote:Well what I have is working. It might not be perfect but it works

That is all that counts. I was just responding to your previous post about wanting to try some new wheels.

Re: My Strip mine project - Lester Perry - 06-04-2010

I know, that topic was beginning to run away in the wrong place

Re: My Strip mine project - MountainMan - 06-06-2010

Carpets + wheels = office furniture. Try a major office supply outlet.

If that doesn't work out, get a piece of hardboard such as masonite, cut it to cover the carpeted area you need to move around on, and pop a wheelie! Thumbsup

Personally, I don't like carpet because it attracts and holds dust, dirt, insects and odors, hides tiny N-scale parts and cannot be thoroughly cleaned in corners and along the junction with baseboards, especially under a layout, where vacuum cleaners don't easily go. It is also toxic in a fire. If I need cushioning along the part I walk on, A carpet runner can do that, or any number of rubbery, cushion commercial products made for the purpose...or, I buy a pair of cushiony shoes. Wink

Just my opinion.

OK here is an update I removed the track so I could do some painting but it will be back. I had to use trucks to keep production going.

Nice Les. Those trucks you've chosen definitely shout "late 1940's early 1950's."

Re: My Strip mine project - railroader9731 - 06-16-2010

Cheers nice job you got going there.

Very nice! I like the mud on the tires.

Re: My Strip mine project - Lester Perry - 06-29-2010

OK now I am getting close to what I want. I am looking for suggestions / ideas.

Re: My Strip mine project - Lester Perry - 07-14-2010

There's not much new action here to show.

I am thinking about adding a couple conveyors here from the high level crossing the road to the rail

If I do I would have to make a way for the trucks to access them. Possibly make them mobile in some way. I am open for suggestions.
