I supposed completed layout scenery help absorb a lot of sound. Just like an empty room is full of echo and the same room with furniture is not.It's only a factor among many others.

Matt,I think when it comes to track many forget its a model too and should be modeled accordingly.

As examples..

A main line should be well maintain with nice road bed.

A branch line should look like a branch line with lighter rail,light ballast and some weeds in the gauge.

A urban industrial lead should be light to medium rail,very lightly ballast with old cinders and ground showing,broken and split ties,and usually lacking roadbed..In short a deferred maintenance track with a permanent speed restriction.

Okay just a little update. I have just added some small details and I adjusted the color of the building. I am going to now work on the Lelco mill building and the roadway to get things blended together. I also started messing around with the track details for something else to do, but will probably hold off any more track work until I have the scenery a little more shapped up.

Smart-looking industry! Nice work.

Reminds me of the industrial parks near me that are just crying out to be modeled. I'm still firmly a freelancer, but I like to take my cues from the real thing as much as possible and your structure has that real-life ring to it.

Thanks for the kind words, i love the urban archeology aspect of model railroading. I just wish I was closer to Bend Oregon so I could spend time in historical archievs and get better information. This is why I operate un fer the "prove me wrong " method of prototype modeling. If you can provide me with accurate information and photos Cheers I will be more then happy to update my model Thumbsup

More building progress, I worked a little on the surrounding area of the Haines building and alos did a little weathering.

Still needs signs and final details, but progress is progress.

As part of the Lelco spur I am building two Free-mo modules, one 6 feet long and the other 4 feet long. I actually already have the modules built, but have not done much with them yet. As part of one of the module sets I have decided to model part of a residential neighborhood, I figured since it was close to the track, the homes would be on the smaller side. The first house I built for this project is a Laser Art Structure from Branchline Trains. This is a great little laser cut kit that went together with not problem. The most time consuming part was the shingles, but I knocked them out one evening while watching T.V. Here is the house to date, still needs final detailing but I am very happy with it so far.

OK Mr Humphrey got house moved into a nice neighborhood that includes sky and trees. I also did a little weathering although I still have a bunch of detailing I will eventually do to the exterior. I also need to go back in and do the final blending of the grass and building.

Just a small update on the Lelco spur.

1) I changed my modeling era from 1968 to 1967 as I found out that Lelco closed in 1968

2) I have started in on a new building for the Free-mo section of the Lelco Spur and it is the Ludgren Logging company. This will be have a small shop and a yard area to park logging equipment. It gives me an excuse to have some unique equipment and to do some vehicle modeling.

3) I have also been working on the pressure tank for Ideal Gas, this facility will take in inbound loads of gas.
