What about Denver or SLC, take the AMTRAK California Zephyr from one city to the other, stay overnight, then either return via plane from the other city, or take AMTRAK back, and leave from the same city. It's a great ride.

It's looking like this trip is just not meant to be. Weather here in DFW has been snowy and icy this past week and flights are being cancelled not only here but everywhere. I am flying on a non-revenue stand-by, which puts me below the totem pole....
Soooo...my buddy is going to give me another pass to use with no expire date like this one was....I was going to have to use this by Wednesday, leaving no time....
I still would like to do this with everyone's input, so keep the suggestions coming and I will complete this mission in 2015....

I am sorry to read that but the Dallas/Ft. Worth area weather is even in the German news. Must thousands of stranded passengers at the airport.
