Believe it or not, the model power coaches come with crude interiors. I had to combine parts from both interiors in order to make one long enough for my lengthened car. I also re-cemented the sheet steel weight to the coach floor, and quickly realized the car was too light. So, I cemented 1/2 oz of lead at each end of the car. In one end of the car, I glued some styrene to serve as a lavatory wall because I felt this detail may be visible through a window. I am not too interested in interior detailing - just enough to indicate the car is not hollow.

I also painted the roof silver, installed 36" wheels, and began adding grab irons and railings to the car end.

Kevin:
just for fun, on the British forums that sort of modification is called a "cut and shut". Kind of a modest term for what must be some precise model work.

Paint shop time. The color is 50% floquil caboose red, 50% floquil tuscan.

I have painted the underframe black, and now need to let the paint dry for a day or two before I mask and paint the letter boards black. I also need to make and install end railings and diaphragms.

Yikes..!!! A real beauty..!! Good job..!! Thumbsup

Re: Nachoman 2010 bash challenge - passenger car - nachoman - 03-19-2010

I made a pair of diaphragms using some folded paper and styrene.

I know where I've seen that paint scheme before! I just noticed it on my local PBS station the other night, watching a steam tourist railroad special. It's the 1880 train, or the Black Hills Central! Silver Roof, faded red/maroon sides, and black trucks/underframe.

I added some homemade decal lettering and glued on my diaphragms. Next is to finish painting the end rails, light weathering, and interior details.

How did you do the white decals? Black border on white paper? Or you have an ALPS printer?
