We made it through. Power stayed on which is amazing considering we lose at the drop of a leaf. We had one trunk of the tree in our front yard come down. After we started cutting it up we found that it did hit the house. Visible damage is a crushed downspout, bent gutter, paint scraped off molding and scratch marks on the stones. There may also be some mortar knocked loose. I still need to have the wall checked out behind the downspout and the roof.
When the tree came down we went out to make sure there was no major damage to the house. While standing out there the neighborhood was lit up with blue flashes. There was one very large and bright flash two blocks to the south. There were flashes to the north and to the west. Fire trucks were racing through the neighborhood. The smell of burning wood was everywhere. It was surreal like we were in the War of Worlds.

Things are quiet here now but we never had more than lots of rain and the worst problem was two complaining dogs.

Hey Guys,
My wife and I are doing fine. Other friends are OK except for no power. Coney Island and other areas got hit hard and were underwater as well as Battery Park City. 9/11 and Sandy? Man are those people getting a rough deal for what they paid for real estate.
I'm more worried about our friends in New Jersey and Long Island. The neighborhood of Breezy Point at the tip of the Rockaways lost about 100 or more homes due to flooding and then a fire. They say that 60% of the residents refused to leave, so I'm praying that all they find in the burnt out rubble is just burnt out rubble.
Lower Manhattan is a mess. Driving around without traffic signals is an exercise in driving skill because there's people approaching intersections felling that they have the right of way by virtue of speed. Most of the residents have moved out of the area for now.
I feel bad for the model railroaders in New Jersey and Long Island because so much layout, so little electricity. Must be a special level of Hell.

Les, Mike, Tom, we're glad to start hearing from everyone back there. Keep up the faith, things will get back to normal for most folks soon.
I see where gas is a scarce commodity, food has got to be a problem for a lot of folks as well. Good luck to everyone there in getting the help they need.

Looks like I will be in Lancaster this weekend. Wife and I are celebrating 39 years on the 3rd, she expressed a desire to go to Lancaster for the weekend. So I looked at the schedule and there are some there, maybe I will be able to check them out. I will try to get some pics

Railroad Model Craftsman Magazine is posting a similar statement at Facebook. That is fine with me. Lots of people in the mort east have much more serious problems than model railroad magazines.
