Re: Freelance 2013-3 - Rscott417 - 11-13-2013 You think an awning is astounding? Take a look at some of "PK Kid's" 200,000 tags throughout NYC and New Jersey. You can't drive down the turnpike without seeing at least 50 of his tags. http://www.robotswillkill.com/graffiti/ ... /91553.JPG http://www.robotswillkill.com/graffiti/ ... /91554.JPG http://farm8.static.flickr.com/7157/645 ... 6e1104.jpg http://www.puregraffiti.com/graffiti-ga ... y_nigs.jpg Re: Freelance 2013-3 - faraway - 11-14-2013 One of the buildings has been placed on the other side of the street to form a (tiny) canyon. The building I moved is a somewhat unusual unique structure with a steel front. The only one I could buy local is exact the same kit. My solution is to do a very different finish. Re: Freelance 2013-3 - faraway - 11-14-2013 I felt the weathering was somewhat overdone. To brighten it up light gray paint and the dry brush technique was used. Re: Freelance 2013-3 - Painkiller - 11-15-2013 Looks like the PK Kid is nor afraid of heights... The skidrowing of the buildings looks great, a burned out old car a few bums and litter then it is just right. Remember that Preiser have a couple of small boxes of "street people" to crown the scene. One funny scene would be that the only business open is a donut bar which just have been robbed and there are a few extra angry cops with cruising investigating the scene.... Re: Freelance 2013-3 - Brakie - 11-15-2013 Reinhard,Your urban decay modeling is very realistic for some areas of big cities that's been left to rot with time .. Some derelicts and wino figures would fit in with your buildings. Re: Freelance 2013-3 - Kev1340 - 11-15-2013 Your buildings are capturing the atmosphere very well I've no doubt once you start adding details the scene will be perfect. Cheers, Kev Re: Freelance 2013-3 - faraway - 11-15-2013 Completed the row of (former) shops today. I need to decide if and how to tread the windows in the upper levels. I am not sure if I will add people in that part of my layout. Whatever I add or omit someone may raise an issue about political correctness. That is not part of my hobby. I believe the buildings and the scenery stand by themselves and you may populate it in your mind as you like. Another key item are the visible brick side walls. I need to develop methods and techniques other than mortal and black wash to get more interesting walls. Peter Feigenbaum applies larger brown and lots of small white spots on the walls. Re: Freelance 2013-3 - faraway - 11-15-2013 I tried to get an interesting brick wall. A relative small wall was used for testing. 1. A thick black line as a residual from a former attached house and thick spots of street concrete 2. Breaking the spots while the paint was not total set 3. Attacking it harder with a special sanding tool 4. Apply a mix of diluted black and brown 5. A standard black wash 6. Brutal attack sanding 7. In it's place on the layout My first conclusion is that you can apply a lot of things as long as you do not forget to sand the wall quite brutal Some time later a larger wall Re: Freelance 2013-3 - lajry - 11-15-2013 Reinhard Is the Xing signal work w/ bells & lights & are you going to add gates? BTW you're doing great work w/ your "cityscape" !! Re: Freelance 2013-3 - faraway - 11-15-2013 lajry Wrote:ReinhardAndi thank you, they are dummies only. I hate noise and blinking red lamps when I relax with my layout The version with gates has an horrible price and uses much more space than my simple one. I think it is an acceptable exception if we understand it is an industry spur only. Re: Freelance 2013-3 - lajry - 11-15-2013 If that Xing signal is only for an industrial spur you could probably get by w/ simple crossbucks. Save that signal bridge for a major street Xing Re: Freelance 2013-3 - Brakie - 11-15-2013 If that Xing signal is only for an industrial spur you could probably get by w/ simple crossbucks. ----------------------------------------------------- The brakeman or conductor will need to flag the crossing since that street seem to be a major thoroughfare.. So far his urban decay looks similar to some parts of Toledo. Re: Freelance 2013-3 - lajry - 11-15-2013 Larry Reinhard's next project is to come up w/ a brakie hologram to protect the Xing. Re: Freelance 2013-3 - Tyson Rayles - 11-16-2013 Graffiti is why so many of us model the 50's and 60's ! Re: Freelance 2013-3 - lajry - 11-16-2013 Reinhard could always model a city graffiti removal crew. |
