The last time I was in Florida was probably 5 years ago, and I've never been to Miami. My wife's relatives live in the Orlando, Tampa/St Pete, and Gainsville in the Northern part of the state. Still that grass looks like what I remember seeing in the sandy areas of Florida. There are also fields of grass that are solid green. I just am not familiar with the area you are modeling.

Wayne, I gotta wear shades when working on the layout
. Seems to be quite common to dispose of tires that way in this part of Miami. I found plenty when I looked around, so that I can have some more on my layout

Russ, thank you for the confirmation. The light green grass is "wild grass spring green" from Heki (#1841). I haven’t used it before, so I only bought one package to try it out. I’ll be back at the LHS today to get some more in different colors, because it is the best model grass I used so far. It looks as good as the Silflor prairie tufts (the dark green grass in the pic), but it is much easier to cover bigger areas and it is even cheaper than the Silflor tufts.

Today I spent some hours applying ground cover and adding more grass. The picture is not very good, I know, but it proves that I was busy today . Man, you won’t believe how much time you can waste gluing a few grass tufts down :o

Another great shot Kurt, the containers are a nice touch to the scene, love them. I also love the way the grass is layed out and "covers" the rail tops in some spots, that just looks so cool and really makes you feel like you are standing there looking at the area with your own 2 eyes

Kurt, Thank you for posting more pictures on your very inspirational layout. It really gets the creative juices flowing seeing the high quality of work you are doing, and I look forward to more progress pictures. I should have a few photos to post soon showing the progress - or lack thereof, of my new layout . Your pictures give us all something to aspire to.
