RE: Charlie b's layout - jim currie - 01-24-2026 way to go Charlie my kind of work love it when someone saves something form the junk box. and I'm a fan of Tichy trucks can't beat them for the price I also use their car parts like ladders. stirps and roof walks. RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 02-04-2026 Last night I worked on the decoder install on a brass Q2 for a while and then decided I would run some trains. I started moving the train of refers and the front locomotive derailed. I rerailed it , moved ahead and the second and third units derailed. I put them on the track and started pulling and noticed the cars were leaning pretty bad going over a section, and finally they separated. I think Todd jinxed me. After 15 years I had gotten an expansion kink and it had pulled the track out of the ballast. Track one required 2 actual feet of new ballast and glue so it will be out of service until tomorrow morning. It was an easy fix. In the meantime I will work on the Q2 and maybe finish the K4 I started 3 or 4 years ago. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - TMo - 02-04-2026 Whammy.... Whammy.... Whammmy.... Sorry, Charlie. Just talking about derailments must be like a computer virus. I cannot be stopped! RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 02-05-2026 Well Todd, the glue has dried and the track is back in service this morning. Nothing like what you went through. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - TMo - 02-05-2026 I'm glad my meddling didn't create too much havoc! Glad to hear it wasn't too painful to fix. Let the Wilderson run wild once more! RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 02-12-2026 These BP20 passenger sharks are a new addition to the }Wilderson division. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - tompm - 02-13-2026 Nice addition. Who made them? RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 02-13-2026 (02-13-2026, 06:59 PM)tompm Wrote: Nice addition. Who made them? Tom I am not sure, they were not boxed but they have been repowered and had DCC/sound. I would guess Alco. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 04-25-2026 Hi folks, I have been doing a little modeling and working on trains but I haven't taken time to post here. I had one hopper that wasn't decorated so I thought the Kiski Junction should have one hopper in the fleet. Another caboose is in the works. I am installing lights but the paint and decals are done I also did this project as a gift. I made the stripes and emblem on inkjet paper. Not terrific, but looks great from 3 feet. I have also been organizing small parts and it does make projects a lot easier and I am getting to know what drawer the parts I need are in. Well, that is a small update, I will try to keep posting when I have something worthwhile. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - TMo - 04-26-2026 I (for one) love the police car, and I don't think you should be selling yourself short on the inkjet printer resources - I think it looks great in the close up! I love the stack o' drawers! I have one of those that I inherited (I store nails, nuts, bolts, screws, springs, etc.) and every so often I need to reorganize because I DON'T have the drawers labeled. Awesome use for them... Of course, it's always good to find something else from the Kiski! RE: Charlie b's layout - hillyard999 - 04-26-2026 Charlie, That is a BIG set of organizing drawers. I am impressed with the effort, having done a little bit of that. And I _do_ tend to forget which little box holds what kind of stuff RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 04-28-2026 Hillyard, those are just two of the 6 I have full of parts. Many are resistors, capacitors and LEDs. I bought an inexpensive Acmer Laser engraver and I have been learning a little. I burnt these parts for an ho scale Long, Long Trailer, and a N&W C3 caboose which will be built for the Kiski model of the KJR44. I have tried to do photos but I am not ready to show off my results for them. The learning curve is tough for old guys but I am determined to work this through. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - TMo - 04-29-2026 That is awesome, Charlie. I've thought about a 3d printer, but never an engraver - prices seems really reasonable. What's the cost of the wood stock and where do you get it? RE: Charlie b's layout - Charlie B - 04-29-2026 (04-29-2026, 03:35 AM)TMo Wrote: That is awesome, Charlie. What's the cost of the wood stock and where do you get it? got it through Temu but it came from Acmer direct. going through trmu I saved a hundred bucks. I also got the basswood plywood through there too. I got 12 4x6 pieces of basswood plywood for $5.30 and they are packaged with 2 8x12 sheets. I also got the honeycomb base for a little over 40 bucks. This is the 6 watt P1. I have a lot to learn but there are groups on fb that help a lot. I am sure Hobby Lobby would have the plywood. The engraver works with stainless and aluminum as well as slate and glass, I have not tried any of these yet. Charlie RE: Charlie b's layout - TMo - 04-30-2026 Boy, that sounds really reasonable. Very tempting... |
