This just in.... - sgtcarl1 - 04-02-2009

May 9th is a day to remember. Why?? This is the date set for the Grand Opening of the CSX-B&O-C&O rail road museum. It is located in Clifton Forge, VA., where CSX has their railyard. They have restored some old passenger coaches, and have others to be restored. They are also restoring some cabeese, and some box cars. They are building a switching tower, which will be open to the public, so they can watch the switch engines as they build consists. They have also converted the old railroad station into a nice museum. There will be other goings on as well. So mark this day on your calendar, and we'll see you there.
Here's some photos to whet your curiosity:

Thats great! Little to far for me to get there though.
The date also coincides with National Train Day....
Coincidence.......I'll let you be the judge.

Ya know...I would have thought C&O would have already operated a museum...it's great that they finally opened one up. Those passenger cars look pretty good!

I would love to go there.. Thumbsup

But,I am not clear on this..

CSX is doing this?? :?:

Re: This just in.... - sgtcarl1 - 04-03-2009

Yes!! CSX is providing most of the funding for the operation! I don't know what that amounts to in dollars, but at least they're actively involved. I guess one of the things they are providing is the track area. Just some abandoned tracks on the edge of their railyard. Much like NS does in Salem, VA.

Cool! That's a good deal especially the switching tower for viewing operations. Thumbsup

Way to go CSX! I'm glad to hear that CSX is doing something to display their past glory as they move into the future. It is a shame that more railroads don't care about their past. I won't make the grand opening, too far from So Cal; but it will be on my list of places to visit if I ever get in the area.
