What do you model apart from railroads ? - upnick - 05-10-2009 Hi All, What else do you or have you modelled apart from railroads or something that ties in with the railroads, before coming to N scale and lately HO i was doing 1/35 military individual vechiles or diorammas ... gone are the days of chasing an etcehd brass part a few MM in length i had carefully shaped to see it fly off into the distant carpet , making individual track links and applying Zimmeritt using Milliput as a base. Though i did enjoy my time making them i wouldnt go back to it. Here are a few pics Replacement Metal track links give a better realistic sag to the tracks on this and the next pic, the kit rivits cut off and new punched out from plasticard. Replacement various etched parts including new fenders from brass heated and bent simulating good usage, resin exhausts Recovery conversion of this Famo using three etched set Hundreds of of add ons .... individual metal track links, the tarp over the cab milliput shaped over an etched brass frame Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - ngauger - 05-10-2009 Don't even think of asking for pictures - everything has been lost over the years,... You have a lot more patience then I do. I used to do other modeling, but now it is only model railroading. The last model I assembled was the Budweiser Clydesdale team and there wagon. Loren Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - Herc Driver - 05-11-2009 I don't do any other modeling...I don't have the body or face for it anymore. I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. Seriously though, I used to build model airplanes and some ships as a kid, but haven't done that in thirty years or more. Nick - those military vehicles are crazy good! My compliments! Great job! Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - eightyeightfan1 - 05-11-2009 Those are sweet looking. I use to do tanks and military vehicles also. I have no pics, cause I haven't done them in years. I also have the Revell static model of the Big Boy stashed somewhere. Here's some that I have done. Makes me wish I still had all of them, but then again, if I did, I wouldn't have room for trains. Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - Brakie - 05-11-2009 I love to catfish.. Nothing like Mr.Whiskers bending your pole and stretching your line. Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - MountainMan - 05-11-2009 Cars as a teemager. 1/35th military modeling until the rivet counters ruined it. Fantasy modeling until the gonadal children of all ages ruined it. Model railroading. Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - Bigsteel - 05-11-2009 i guess model cars, planes, boats, whatever i seem to like at the time .and iw o0uldnt really call it modeling but i do race nitro RC buggies.lots-o-noise an smaoke, what isnt to like --josh Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - e-paw - 05-11-2009 I have built cars, boats, tanks, plains, motorcycles, figures, space ships, robots, and all kinds of stuff. When I was a kid I had about 2 dozen air plains hanging from my celling, even a flying dinosaur with caveman pilot. A few years ago I built a working trebuchet as a scale test bed far a full size one that I will start as soon as my neighbors trust me not to lay siege on there front porch. This one is able to toss a BB covered tin foil ball about 20 feet. This it something I did in an art class back in the 8th grade that our UK friends would know. It's a space marine from the War Hammer 40,000 game.It won a sculpting contest for New Jersey grammar schools. Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - upnick - 05-12-2009 Thanks guys for the comments .... i had a lot more patience then a varied lot you have all built over time i never got the hang of doing Monogram 1/48 aircraft but did loads of their cars and had customer builds the Pocher range of cars (only way i could afford to do them) one of them complete with a horsehair stuffed handstitched leather seats and all wood veneering throughout. Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - jglfan - 05-12-2009 Hi Upnick, that is some spectacular military modeling! I have a friend who mixes military modeling with railroad modeling (I have no such talent) Here is a link to his website. You guys have a lot in common! http://www.blakedtatar.com/ Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - Spitfire - 05-12-2009 My other modelling interest is also military, but in my case it's 1/6 scale. It's kind of a break for me from tiny details and wiring, although it sure takes up a lot of room in a hurry. Here's a few of my projects. Some recent, and some not so recent. Some Canadians slogging through the rain in Belgium, winter 1944/45 Red army troops in Stalingrad 1942 Canadian field command post in Sicily 1943 D-Day: Royal Winnipeg Rifles Modified and weathered Harley Davidson Jeep repainted in Canadian markings The bad guys - German machine gun team German officer in a "Kubelwagen" RAF Pilot with the squadron's mascott. cheers Val Re: What do you model apart from railroads ? - ngauger - 05-12-2009 great stuff Val!! |
