Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Steve - 03-27-2011 Awesome work, both above and below! Mike....I have the simplest wiring possible, and it still looks "untidy". My hat is off to you Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Fifer - 03-28-2011 Steamtrains Wrote:Hey Mike...While on the subject...Could you please give us a little "tour" of what all is on that panel, and what all the widgits do..??On the backside the red switches are for turnout control and the blue switches are for block control and the electronic gadget is a Digitrax AR1 reverse unit for the orange reverse section. They are ALL wired into an Amphanol connector to make it easy to remove the panel for working on it. I have a 40 min video I made of just the panel construction and plan to sell it once I get the jacket designed. Thanks Gus , Mike Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Steamtrains - 03-29-2011 Thanks for that info, Mike....That makes for a very neat and functional panel... Mine is still "old school"..Masonite and push buttons with angular track diagrams.... Stuck back in the 60's.... It will be on a hillside at the location of the new cut in the middle of the layout as you come in the door. Two of these were from the old layout and four are newly done. The ghost town will have an abandon road off the main highway and some dead trees and so forth. Thanks , Mike Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Ralph - 04-09-2011 They've got lots of character Mike! And, I keep reminding myself...N scale! Wow! Nicely done. Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Fifer - 04-09-2011 Thanks Gus and Ralph , I actually love making them. Mike Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Fifer - 04-11-2011 Here is the latest video on the ACTRR. Part 19 covers the new Ghost Town area ant forestation of the mountain area as well as the completed new yard area. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SN2jEeHCC-o Thanks , Mike Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Steamtrains - 04-16-2011 Hi Mike... Great video..!! Nice tour of your layout. Among other things, I really like your backdrops, particularly those with a SW'rn flavor. Did you paint these yourself..?? I'm getting to the point of having to paint some before work can continue on the layout, but haven't the faintest idea of what, and how, to paint them... Any input would be most welcome.... Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Fifer - 04-17-2011 Steamtrains Wrote:Hi Mike...I first paint the backdrop with sky and then I use a small foam roller to put on the thinned greyish background mountains. After that I use a combination of commercial backdrps with the sky cut off and then i blend them with paints and color back in any removed details. Thanks Gus , Mike PS i sometimes cut uildings right out of the Walthers HO catalog and use them. Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Fifer - 04-25-2011 Well , I am a late bloomer last week so today I got all of the scenery done between the back track and backboard and now to weather and ballast the track there and add people and then the reach will be easier. Mike Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Steamtrains - 04-27-2011 OK...Let's take a "for instance"....In the last photo above, you have the furthest track passing right up against a cut on the scenery, right in the center of the photo. Behind this is a reddish "mountain"....Did you paint this mountain on the backdrop...or is it a "pastie"..?? Thanks Gus , Mike Re: ACTRR is being dismantled and re-constructed - Gary S - 04-27-2011 Mike, the scenery is coming along nicely and looks good. |
