Photos from the backside - foulrift - 05-22-2009

Happy Memorial Day. Here are some shots taken of and from the backside of the layout.
First up is the pallet dealer showing the platform, and a storage area.

Next up is the freight handling area which includes the front end loader that I was working on.

Last are the coal and oil dealers.I did a small revision on the coal dealer.Instead of having the tracked loader load trucks,I now have the conveyors doing that.

Enjoy the pictures and the holiday.

Re: Photos from the backside - foulrift - 05-22-2009

Thanks. That's the one nice thing about having a small layout. It's pretty easy to move it around so one can take pics from either side. That helps especially when you want to show progress shots.

Looks good.
Very rarely do we see the "backsides" of layouts.

Re: Photos from the backside - foulrift - 05-22-2009

88-Thanks for the reply. The size of the layout gives me that ability. Also makes it easier to work on.

I like all of the trucks and crates in the freight handling area. It makes it look realistic and busy.

Lookin' good, Bob, and it's always nice to see views of our layouts that we've not seen before. For those of us with layouts bolted to the walls of the trainroom, it's still possible to "get a view from the other side", too. Simply place your digital camera on the layout, suitably aimed, tilted, and/or elevated, and press the shutter. Sometimes the picture will be useable, other times you'll have a nice shot of your prized loco with something less-suitable in the background - like your own face. Eek Misngth

Here are a few "from the layout views" from my own layout. I'll spare you the ones where I got caught in the background Wink , but some aren't too bad, and all are of views which one would not be able to see without the camera's help.

When you're unable to look through the viewfinder, you never know what may show in the photo. However, often you can seen the makings of a decent photo if only the camera were turned a bit to the left, or tilted downwards slightly. With a digital camera, it's easy (and free) Goldth to try again until all the elements come together to your satisfaction.

Hi Bob---interesting thread---following Doctor Wayne's lead, here's a few more shots taken on his layout during a photo shoot where we placed the camera on the inside of the layout and hoped for the best---I think some of the pictures turned out pretty well

I don't recall the first shot - you must've snapped it while I wasn't payin' attention. Wink Misngth

Cheers gives you the idea of being there in the layout,

Re: Photos from the backside - eightyeightfan1 - 05-24-2009

Nice pics guys.
I try to take "backside" pics the same way. Take a pic, check the viewer...No go, reposition, take another one.

Thought I'd throw one in the mix.
Backside of Ore Hill, uncut, uncomped and raw.
See why I like putting in real backgrounds?
