Fostoria Outing. - Brakie - 06-08-2009

I will post some videos to let you see the general picture how things went.

1. A CSX Westbound

2.Even the U.P got in on the act.

3. Eastbound CSX

4.Then NS.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AfzadmW6lY

It was like that from(around) 7:30 AM to around noon..

Then yesterday on my walk "rest" on the NS I caught these former CR units rounding the connector toward Bellevue.

Overall it was a great trip..A return trip is planned.

However...

Like all things Brakie I forgot to format my memory card to my camcorder.. Wallbang

Re: Fostoria Outing. - Squidbait - 06-08-2009

I used to love doing a Fostoria/Bellview/Marion weekend.

Fostoria just doesn't seem the same without the Fostoria Fallus, though... Wink Big Grin

Nice Larry. Cheers

Got to love that chessie system. Cheers

Re: Fostoria Outing. - Squidbait - 06-10-2009

So how friendly is Fostoria for railfans these days, Larry?

For awhile there (back in the '90s) it was a little dicey... there were a couple of idiots in the area that went around with radios and talked to the crews (or more properly at the crews... they'd never respond, other than to ask for ID). They'd also walk around like the owned the place, and harass other railfans. It really queered the pitch for legitimate railfans for quite awhile.

Re: Fostoria Outing. - Squidbait - 06-10-2009

... actually, one of my favourite railfan memories comes from Fostoria.

I'd just taken my friend Pat down there for his first US railfanning trip... we pulled up across from the -ahem- landmark to catch a Chessie freight. He'd never seen a live, breathing GP30 before, so he immediatley leapt out in the rain to snap a pic. What should come over the radio but "F-tower, you'd better call the psychiatrics, there's some nut out here takin' pictures in the rain!"

Pat couldn't figure out why I was busting a gut laughing when he got back in the car.... Misngth

Well I was up there from around 7:30AM to around 1:30pm and there was no hassles from CSX or the local Police..In fact I notice a cop car went by twice on the street next to the station and didn't even slow down...Of course the group of railfans(10 or 12) was well behave..I didn't notice any stupidity. Thumbsup

The city will be building a railfan park.

My biggest complaint is there isn't a restroom near by.

Re: Fostoria Outing. - conrailmike - 06-28-2009

There will be NO railfan park as of right now. The latest word is that Ellen went around opening her mouth when she shouldn't have and now the funds have been put to other uses. I believe she pissed off a lot of railfans, too bad for the city of Fostoria

You want a nicer place to go? Head to Deshler, complete with Crossroads Park where you can camp and fire up the ATCS and enjoy the show.

Mike,When did this happen? My understanding from 2 local railfans they are suppose to start construction early next year after they have the asbestos removed later this year.

Deshler is on my list---number 3 to be exact.Next up is a ride on the Hocking Valley Scenic, then Bellevue/Sandusky then Deshler.

Re: Fostoria Outing. - conrailmike - 06-28-2009

That's the word circling around now for a month or so. I heard it again at the Railroadfan.com spring meet earlier this month. It appears Ellen is being a P.I.T.A.
