Great pictures Todd. What were they doing next to the PPLX train?

Re: Railfanning Norfolk Southern RR - csiguy68 - 10-20-2009

thanks matt. im not exactly sure what those guys were doing next to the train. im strill trying to find out. i got there about 3pm and there was more MOW trucks and people than i ever saw in any one area at a given time. .Both Hultcher and NS had a lot of trucks and heavy equipment on site , as well as several generators with the lights on them. . i saw a lot of rail, ballast and several sections of panel track near by too . i know there was not a derailment or anything like that. however the nice part was there was a lot of traffic through Conpitt yesterday because they were only using two tracks through there and traffic was at a restricted speed.

Caught these today. I knew I didn't have photo's of these units so I took them with my phone. This was a four banger ( SD40E's ) pushing hard on the end of a PPLX Coal Train.

Re: Railfanning Norfolk Southern RR - csiguy68 - 10-21-2009

Hey everyone. I am going to try and get some pictures tomorrow while I am out and about. Might head to Gallitzin and shoot some pictures at the tunnels.( that's if the fiance will let me LOL ). The mainline sure did sound busy over the past few days. Has anyone seen any action over the past few days?
