British steam locos - Wiredup - 09-08-2009

Could anyone point me in the direction to find a DCC equipped or capable British loco?

I'm specifically looking for an A1 4-6-2.

It's gotta be Candy Apple Green too! Smile

The A1 4-6-2 is just a Flying Scotsman, without the Flying Scotsman name badge. Tongue

I've checked Hornsby and Trix, but can't seem to find a DCC one.

Re: British steam locos - poliss - 09-09-2009

If you want a Gresley A1 as opposed to the later Peppercorn A1 in your photo, then Hornby have the R2549 Flying Fox and R2405 Great Northern which are both DCC Ready. If you want the later Peppercorn A1, which is in British Railways apple green livery, then Bachmann have a model due for release in January 2010, model number 32-550A.
For information about the different A1's see the LNER Encyclopedia at <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.lner.info/index.shtml">http://www.lner.info/index.shtml</a><!-- m -->

Is this ome? The Britannia #70000 by tri-Ang. It even has a smoke unit. Non DCC.

No, that's an R.A.Riddles Standard Class 7 built for British Railways in 1951. The LNER ceased to exist in 1948. See <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BR_Standard_Class_7">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BR_Standard_Class_7</a><!-- m -->

A1 Peppercorn is exactly what I'm looking for like the one pictured above. Green wheels, ears...Smile

I'll hold out to see this Bachmann one... I assume it's Bachmann UK releasing it?

Re: British steam locos - poliss - 09-09-2009

Yes, it's by Bachmann UK. I'd put your order in now as they are sure to sell like hot cakes.

Re: British steam locos - Wiredup - 09-09-2009

hummm... so where would I order from?

being a Canadian Smile

There's also Model Railway Imports in Toronto. Forgot that one. :-) <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.modelrailwayimports.com/index.php">http://www.modelrailwayimports.com/index.php</a><!-- m -->

Re: British steam locos - Wiredup - 09-09-2009

I've searched the sites for the A1 and all that comes up is OO gauge or O gauge...

where would I find the model number or spec sheet?

thanks

Re: British steam locos - poliss - 09-09-2009

Model Railways Direct has more specs of the model than most. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.modelrailwaysdirect.co.uk/acatalog/Bachmann-32-550A.html">http://www.modelrailwaysdirect.co.uk/ac ... -550A.html</a><!-- m -->

Re: British steam locos - poliss - 09-09-2009

Here's a link to the British Railway Modellers of North America (BRMNA) website. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://home.ca.inter.net/~brmna/">http://home.ca.inter.net/~brmna/</a><!-- m --> They have some Canadian dealers listed on the Suppliers page. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://home.ca.inter.net/~brmna/prodser.htm">http://home.ca.inter.net/~brmna/prodser.htm</a><!-- m -->
Also a list of Canadian suppliers on the Model Shops Directory website. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/country/Canada">http://www.ukmodelshops.co.uk/country/Canada</a><!-- m -->

Re: British steam locos - Wiredup - 09-09-2009

mmm thats OO gauge... I'm modeling N Tongue

Re: British steam locos - poliss - 09-09-2009

Umm, never looked at the topic heading. :oops: Hang on, I'll see if I can find some N versions. I'm sure I've seen some.

Re: British steam locos - poliss - 09-09-2009

Can't find any Peppercorn A1s in N Scale. There's the Flying Scotsman, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.railway-models.co.uk/1736_1_1654906.html">http://www.railway-models.co.uk/1736_1_1654906.html</a><!-- m -->
Or the V2 Green Arrow, <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.gaugemaster.com/item_details.asp?code=GF372602&style=main&strType=farish&Mcode=Graham%20Farish%20372-602">http://www.gaugemaster.com/item_details ... %20372-602</a><!-- m -->
Maybe Bachmann will release an A1 under their Graham Farish brand.
