Cherangell ........ Intermodal - upnick - 10-29-2009

Hi All,

I have settled on a plan for my new N scale layout having searched the net for a long time for a good intermodal plan for use in the future & have come back to Kingman a layout which was built to portray area 41 ..... my intermodal theme will be based on it using the main three outer tracks with some adaptation in the centre depending on how things go again i intend to use code 55 track with the boards to be 13ft long 2ft wide in the centre the ends out to 2ft6'' -3ft to allow a turnaround for the locos.

Just need to clear the boards of the track underlay from the HO & i can make a start.

Many thanks to B17 fortress the orginator of this plan for his permission to use it for my new venture.

OOOO I like the plan Nick!! Looking forward to seeing this one get started Misngth

You going to have long intermodal trains? Those are my favorites Misngth

Re: Cherangell ........ Intermodal - upnick - 11-01-2009

Hey Josh,

Yes thats the idea plenty of intermodal spines & well cars Big Grin could do with time off work to get it on the move stripped the boards of HO now just need to sand one module off in preparation.

Ordered a box of track & bus wire i have enough turnouts already Thumbsup

Re: Cherangell ........ Intermodal - upnick - 11-18-2009

Hi All,

Today i finished laying track & wiring the bus in on the first board & tested it all especially the outer curve for smooth running & clearence for the #4001 Big Boy.

All went well took a couple of pictures.

What goes in the centre of the turnaround in the centre is in the planning possibly a hill with a short tunnel up to the end backboard :?:

Re: Cherangell ........ Intermodal - upnick - 12-18-2009

Hi Guys,

I am looking for autorack ramps for the layout like these but of course in N scale
[Image: ARL_2-1.jpg]

I dont mind if they are kits preferably etched if they are available ......... help i need at last two of them for a loading ramps scene :?

Re: Cherangell ........ Intermodal - Trucklover - 12-18-2009

You and me both Nick! LOL. Im in need of a few more loading ramps myself, mine HO though. I got one of the Walthers FORD auto loading racks (kit comes with 2) but I need 4 more ramps (2 more kits) and there retired now, and i cant justify spending the ridiculously high ebay prices they go for lol

Re: Cherangell ........ Intermodal - upnick - 12-18-2009

Hi Josh i may end up buying the HO ones for a pattern for them unless i can find accurate drawings for them Goldth

Re: Cherangell ........ Intermodal - poliss - 12-19-2009

The now defunct Mocalova Model Works made a resin kit. You might be able to pick one up on Ebay if you're lucky.

Re: Cherangell ........ Intermodal - upnick - 12-19-2009

Hi Poliss,

Many thanks for the lead on the kits ........... done a search on the net but cant get an image up of them ...... keep an eye open for them now Wink

Re: Cherangell ........ Intermodal - LynnB - 12-19-2009

Nice to see you have settled on a plan, it took me a real long time to get started and ended up designing my own plan. In the plan it looks like there is a bit of twisted dogbone in it will you be raing the track somewhat.
