Rail road site - torikoos - 11-16-2009 Some of you may know about this site, I just discovered it and thought I'd share the link anyway. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/ Lots and lots of nice pics from the prototype, nice for a bit of rail fanning, or if you're looking for details of specific types of loco's or rolling stock etc, when trying to add details to an engine as prototypical as possible. Re: Rail road site - ngauger - 11-16-2009 Oh Man!! Tons of great pics!!! I went to "Location" and found a bunch that were taken here in Southeast PA.... Great stuff!!!! Thanks for posting it!! Re: Rail road site - TrainNut - 11-16-2009 Bookmarked! Re: Rail road site - tomustang - 11-16-2009 Wow!! this will keep me busy for a while, thanks Time to make some new folders Re: Rail road site - tomustang - 11-16-2009 After I went though several cities  I made it into Quakertown, PA and noticed they are modeling pictures as well Re: Rail road site - Ralph - 11-16-2009 That's a terrific site! TONS of photographs of Penn Central equipment (my favorite road, torikoos)! Ralph Re: Rail road site - railohio - 11-16-2009 http://railpictures.net/ has better photographs because its submissions are screened but it generally has newer images. Re: Rail road site - Trains Winnipeg - 11-16-2009 Tend to disagree with the last one. Over the last year there have been tons of older IE 50's,60's etc... But both serve their respective purposes. Re: Rail road site - tomustang - 11-17-2009 railohio Wrote:http://railpictures.net/ has better photographs because its submissions are screened but it generally has newer images.I disagree also, railpictures screens too much. I sent in 8 pictures of rarer locomotive numbered NS's and got all rejected, very nice pictures i must say. Their committee isn't well put together I have surfed around that site and found some nasty pictures that were approved, like a dog next to some railroad ties, a fat woman coverring up rolling locomotive, etc... Their committee isn't well put together Tom,I agree..That site puts me in mind of Trains magazine..Your pictures as to be professional quality and sharp enough -and I will use a old worn phrase-to read "Marlboro" on the pack of smokes in the engineers shirt pocket... Re: Rail road site - Triplex - 11-17-2009 I have to say I prefer unscreened sites. I'm most interested in railfan photos as a historical record, so I want photos of older and interesting subjects, whether or not they're good quality. Yes, unscreened sites will thus accumulate a great excess of photos of the current and ordinary, but so will screened sites. The main reason I end up using RailPictures most is its (relatively) convenient search function. For the types of pictures I want, RR Picture Archives and http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/ are more useful, but the latter has no search at all. RailPictures has been getting better on older photos - they used to not even have a "1950s" category at all. |
