Bakersfield, feb '98. Taken against the sun, unfortunately. Re: Would anyone be interested in the "Photography Game" here? - Charlie B - 08-22-2010 I think this thread has served its usefulness. If you want to post pictures, just post pictures, evidently the rules are too hard to follow. I think this had GE electrical gear. Charlie Re: Would anyone be interested in the "Photography Game" here? - bdw9535 - 08-22-2010 Charlie B Wrote:I think this thread has served its usefulness. Charlie, I'll have to disagree, this thread does have a purpose and if the newer guys on the thread would only take the time to read the first several pages of the thread it explains quite well how to follow along. There are several other places on the forum where guys(or ladies) can post just any picture. The photography game was the reason I joined this forum and I personally would hate to see it end. Now lets get back to the game. Bruce Re: Would anyone be interested in the "Photography Game" here? - doctorwayne - 08-22-2010 I think that Bruce is right: the rules are what keeps this thread moving in related but sometimes unexpected ways. It also encourages potential posters to learn a little about that which they're thinking of posting - if I have a picture of a diesel, but I'm not sure if it's the same model as the one onto which I wish to add, all I have to do is google its roadname and number. If I'm not mistaken, Charlie, you're the inventor of this game (back at that other place) and, ultimately, it's your call on whether or not it continues as intended. However, the rules, which aren't that difficult, are what makes this thread unique - to "dumb them down", in my opinion, would be a mistake. Sometimes, when I don't have a photo that I can legitimately squeeze in, I just sit back and watch in awe as you more knowledgeable (and more prolific) rail photographers strut your stuff. The depth of your collections and your knowledge about them always leaves me amazed. I do like that photo of the FPA-4, though - it's my absolute favourite passenger diesel. Wayne Re: Would anyone be interested in the "Photography Game" here? - Steamtrains - 08-22-2010 I agree with Bruce and Dr. W. The rules are what makes this collection of pics different from others. As a lot of pics are diesel related, I (and others, I presume) are at a loss if a picture properly follows the previous one. You all could give a hand if you identify the kind of engine posted and help keep the thread "on track", as it were.... Re: Would anyone be interested in the "Photography Game" here? - andersley - 08-22-2010 As a relative newbie here, I would be saddened if this thread ceased. Some links to the previous photo are a bit tentative at times and I apologise if I have made any mistakes. Had the comment by Charlie not included the LOL icon, it would have seemed quite offensive. Surely it is better to gently point out any discrepancies in a particular post than to want to discontinue the thread? There are many superb (and quite rare) pictures here which may have otherwise gone unposted, which surely has to be a good thing? My offerings are neccessarily limited as I have only made one trip to southern California in 1998, but if appropriate it gives me pleasure to post and sometimes get favourable comments. 8-) |
