One Stall Engine House - up_x3985 - 12-06-2009

Hi at all!

Yesterday I have bought the used engine house shown below!

Has anybody an idea on who is the manufacturer of this kit, and most important, where I can find this kind of engine house in the US?! I hope east coast (maybe West Virginia?).

Looks like an old Heljan. I think IHC still might sell them.

Nice find...I believe it was available through AHM for awhile as well, many kits danced through the major manufacturers over the years. With the brick, the arched windows and the slight European flair, it's a cinch for any small eastern road.

I love the old kits - especially when people spend time painting and detailing them.

Isn't it the old Revelle kit? Revelle went into the model railroad business just about the time slot cars came out or a little earlier. When they bailed out of the business, it seems everybody in the model railroad structure business ended up with their tooling.

A couple things that would dramatically improve the appearance: An off-white wash for the mortar lines and coat of flat finish/dullcoat. Perhaps, in addition, a black wash over the roof as well. It is a neat design, and a little bit of treatment to the molded color would really make it look nice.

It looks like the structure on the cataloge picture and it is it. Great!
And yes, the structure is crying for any weathering...

Marco, the version that I have, oddly enough, was by Pola (Marco? Pola?) 35 Misngth Misngth

I don't have an awful lot of pictures of it, though, as it's right at the edge of the layout.

Here's a viewof it, at the extreme right edge, from Barney Secord's photo files:

As you can see, I changed the roof, using Campbell corrugated panels over sheet styrene, and placed the kit roof elsewhere on another structure. I also eliminated the ventilation cupolas. In the picture below, the "wooden" end has been replaced with a brick one, possibly using brick material from the normally unseen side of the building. The doors on both ends are scratchbuilt and can be opened or closed:

Because I "borrowed" some brick from the unseen side, I covered-up the opening with this scratchbuilt addition:

Here's a view of the rear of the structure. I use the building as a car shop, for repairs and painting: the locomotive is probably in for some paint work or repairs to the cab:

Great photos Wayne. I like the way you customized the structure, and the "railroad junk" you placed around the structure makes the scene.

Also, thanks for the last photo... I envision my layout looking similar to that for overall effect.
