Dust collector - Lester Perry - 12-22-2009

I am just now assembling a Walthers Wall side dust collector. This kit has been around for a long time so this might be an old question. Unless I am doing something wrong, the 2 halves of it both have male locating pins I just cut them off but thought I would see if anyone else has had this problem.

Got a picture of the (unassembled) parts?

Not right now I don't but I can. I am still putting it together .I just remove the little pins. I just felt it was strange that this mistake was not noticed and fixed by Walthers. This kit has been out for several years.

Just guessing, but a) either you got two identical parts, or b) everyone else did what you did and never told Walthers about it, or c) you're not putting it together right in the first place! Big Grin

I kind of agree with you on B & C. But A doesn't fit as the 2 parts are not identical. Its really not a big deal.

The mis-pinning is the fault of whoever did the tooling for the kit. The "fix" is simple enough, and the cost of retooling would be too expensive for something as simple to fix as removing the pins.
I might add, that those locater pins, are "recommended removal items" by many modelers, as they can cause slight misalignment between the two parts, that leads to excessive sanding and filling. It's easier to remove the pins and align the parts for the least visible seams, to begin with. I've made it a habit to remove those pins, for years now.
