Nice HOn3 Article - jefelectric - 12-17-2008

The January issue of RMC has an article on LInn Moedinger's HOn3 layout. For those who don't recognize the name, Linn is the president of the Strasburg RR. I'm not in HOn3, but I read eveything train related that I can get my hands on. Some other good stuff in this issue.

You know, I went to the LHS last weekend - and one of my goals was to brows the magazine rack. And whaddaya know, they had no current magazines Eek sure, there were some very, very old back issues of model railroader they were trying to sell, but other than that, the rack was completely empty! And then browsing the rest of the store, it doesn't appear they have restocked anything since the last time i was there, and that was 6 months ago! Nope

Now you have given me an excuse to find a different LHS, and track down this article! One of the reasons I quit reading Model Railroader is that I switched to a WWI time frame, and to narrow gauge, and frankly, MR didn't have much for me any more.

I leafed over it. It was an East Broad Top meets the Rio Grande Southern layout. My wife was on me about the time, so I didn't have a chance to see if it was just a RGS layout with EBT & RGS equipment, or an Telluride-Orbisonia-Ophir-Mt. Union deal.

The current Model Railroad Planning (or maybe Great Model RRs?) has an 1882 On3 South Park Layout. It had a few novel concepts.

I haven't read MR regularly for a few years, but the NG&SLG is a gift on my Christmas list every year that I never receive. I'm just as (or more) excited about back issues than the current issue when it comes to model rr magazines.

Linn describes it as " the northern sixty miles of the RGS, and the southern twenty miles of the EBT". He created an interchange point between the two.
Some very nice modeling, and some really good pictures, and no less fictional than my standard gauge, Sagaponack Montauk and Cindys Harbor, a steam railroad operating in present day Northeastern U.S.
The parent company, Sag Harbor Shipbuilding and Drydock Co., that operates an industrial 3' gauge line, also owns standard gauge Shinnecock Hills Lumber company, and the 30" gauge Wiscasset Bucksport and Schoodic Point.
