Derailment on Sandpatch - Charlie B - 02-07-2010 This happened yesterday. Not newsworthy enough with the politicians snowed in. 100 cars derailed. http://www.dailyamerican.com/articles/2 ... ews252.txt Charlie Re: Derailment on Sandpatch - Brakie - 02-07-2010 100 cars..That' must be a mess. Re: Derailment on Sandpatch - Ralph - 02-07-2010 Geez! That'll be hard to deal with with the current weather, I'll bet. Re: Derailment on Sandpatch - Bob C - 02-07-2010 According to one of the CSX's neighbors in West Newton, Quote:I don't know that railroad, but I'll bet it was a heck of a ride, and I believe no casualties. :o Bob C. Re: Derailment on Sandpatch - joefryfry - 02-08-2010 That's great. Is that the mainline from the Mon-Valley to Baltimore? Coal stockpiles around here just keep growing because they can't sell the coal. They're sending it to Baltimore to ship overseas to China, who has no problem building coal-fired power plants. I wish they'd get rid of some of this coal around here because it is getting to be a pain to map such large piles every month. Not too long ago, at the loadout in Baltimore, one of the coal piles gave way and spilled onto the railroad loop and knocked an engine over. We've mapped that too so they can try to fix some things there. I think they are trying to make improvements to the area to make it more efficient to ship coal out, but they have to use what they got since you can't build anything new in the very protected Bay. Re: Derailment on Sandpatch - LiveSteamer - 02-09-2010 WOW hock: As for the coal. NS has been shipping it left and right here. At least 2-4 trains aday of 100+ cars going east bound. Re: Derailment on Sandpatch - Sumpter250 - 02-09-2010 That picture, would make an excellent subject for a rather large diorama........ Coal, steel, and snow............................everywhere! (cold steel on ice ??) Re: Derailment on Sandpatch - railohio - 02-09-2010 One track is reopened and trains are running again. Re: Derailment on Sandpatch - joefryfry - 02-09-2010 I was able to get to work today, below Waynesburg, PA. It looks like a war zone down there. They say power at the office by Friday, but I don't see that happening. That NS line there serves Bailey, Federal #2, Emerald, and Blacksville 1 and 2 mines. Looks like some trains have been moving down the tracks. There are some trains here and there, but coal sales are way down and the stockpiles keep growing. This is why they are cutting deals with China. |
