Email notification extensive "header" info - Squidbait - 04-28-2010

Is it just me, or is there way too much "header" info in the email notifications?

To be clear, all that header info is in the body of the notification email. I don't think it's my mail client inserting it, since I belong to other groups that use the same forum software and I don't have all that in their posts.

Personally, I don't need to see all that stuff. It's a pain for me, since in my mail client I have to scroll down through the message past all that extraneous stuff to actually see the link.

I looked at my CP options, and I don't see a setting for headers in notifications... did i miss something?

And unless I'm wrong, I don't think the notifications have always come with this... seems to me they used to just start with the "You are receiving this ..."

Is this necessary? Am I the only one who finds it annoying? Can anything be done to make it go away?

Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter of "As the Squidbait Gripes"!

Which might work if I were interested in everything going on in here... but I'm not. I'm a snob. :ugeek: Tongue

Besides, that sort of defeats the entire purpose of the email notification, doesn't it?

Re: Email notification extensive "header" info - ezdays - 04-29-2010

Don't know what's going on, but all my subscription notifications start out with: "Hello ezdays". I get the same "to, reply to, from and date" in the header area that I get with all my email, but no more. I checked on this end and can see no place to change any notification settings, so I'm guessing that it has to be on the other end although I cannot find any settings to change there either. I'm using Thunderbird as my mail client.

Exactly my point. I get enough %$^ Curse &&%$% email as it is. I don't need any extra telling me there are new posts at a site which I will be checking anyway.

Ah, well... for those of us who have a life, and can't dwell online all day, we need to be notified when there's some activity. Tongue 790_smiley_picking_a_fight Icon_lol

Re: Email notification extensive "header" info - nolatron - 04-29-2010

Depending on the mail server os, mail software, spam software, etc... on both the sender *and* receivers side... used that's not an uncommonly long email header. What you see is just about normal these days.

Most email clients hide all the Header details these days, showing just the usual From, Reply-to, Sent to data. Header info is still viewable by a right click option on a "show header/details" link in web based clients. You may not see it, but it's always there.

True, but it shows up in the email header, not in the body text of the email, as is the case here.
