Great work Gary! I like their realist look! and the Texas Division decals too!

You're giving me ideas abotu recycling a few cars I didn't know what to do with them.

@Doctorwayne: How many cars in GERN's roster so far?

Matt

I just counted 75, but that will rise when I hear from Gary on his latest round of additions. Let me know if you're interested in becoming part of the GERN family - I have advertising material which I e-mail to all, and I also send along any new stuff as my brother (or other members) create it. I'll need an e-mail address of course, which you can send to me via PM.

Wayne, it's been a while since I thought about getting a few GERN cars on the layout. I have a lot of kits unsuitable for canadian prototype kitbashes. What would you suggest for a 50's theme layout?

It's funny when wild ideas become reality!

There aren't really any limits to what can be used for GERN rolling stock, and it needn't be limited to any particular era unless that's your preference. My own GERN operation uses boxcars from the '20s alongside covered hoppers from the '30s, '40s, and '50s - I like 'em, I run 'em. Misngth
The most common ones used by GERN modellers are covered hoppers of various types and eras, followed by tank cars, boxcars, gondolas, and open hoppers. For '50s-era cars of a Canadian prototype, TrueLine's slab-sided covered hoppers are probably the most obvious (and most expensive) choice, but GERN buys and/or designs the cars they need. If you've got some odd-ball cars that you like but don't match your favourite prototypes, GERN's your solution. Thumbsup Wink

GERN new 830 30' frameless tank car are out from the shop and ready to roll. This serie was custom-built in 1957 to GERN specifications for Flux Slurry Service. Don't ask me what is flux slurry, it's the by-product of a by-product, but it's good! Some slurry spillage occured while loading it the first time... Can't keep a car clean for a single day!

The GERN Industries corporation has just announced the opening of a new facility in Tree Point, Wisconsin.
Rather than building a new warehouse, they took over existing facilities, saving them sufficient money to be at least 3% better off.

The facility will enable the company to distribute their products in the area by rail, rather than road, due to rising demand, and complaints from the local town council, that the traffic created by the trucks had increased that is causes gridlock at busier times in the day. Immediately after the opening, the first box cars arrived, and caused an immediate reduction in road traffic of 3% in the first hour of the facility being opened, this could have been better had it not been for the press showing up, and the protest some local truckers staged.

Re: GERN Industries Gibson Works... - Lester Perry - 08-07-2014

It is always good to see new Gern operations. I have had to rebuild part of my layout which included Gern. I have posted it in other threads but I guess I should post it here also. Give me some time and I will try to put it together.

Located in Dawson Creek,BC it seems that GERN is a more Canadian type of industrie...

Re: GERN Industries Gibson Works... - Catt - 08-27-2014

Actually Chris Gern is more like a North American industrie in that you will find it all over the continent. It is headquartered in Canada though.
