Big package arrived on my doorstep! - Gary S - 11-12-2010 Christmas in November!!! After getting the pilings installed on the Mason Park bridge, I came in from the train room to eat supper. The wife said "you got a big package today." Oh boy! Opened it and started removing all the German newspaper packing: pulled out a big well-packaged thing from the crumpled-up newspaper cushioning... Carefully removed the wrapping, and.... KURT!! You rock, man! Can't thank you enough, Kurt. I'll make good use of these buildings on the layout and I'll think of your generosity often... it'll be awhile, but am very much looking forward to running some trains past the buildings, and spotting a few cars at the loading dock doors. Also, the house you included is perfect for the residential area I am planning! It will be great fun figuring out how the buildings will fit into my layout. On other note, now I can carefully examine the way Kurt builds his buildings and make use of his techniques for my scratchbuilding. I tell you, these buildings are SOLID! Kurt, love the way you put these things together, and they survived the trip from Germany to Texas without a single scratch or broken part. So again, thank you so much Kurt! Love the buildings! WOOHOO!!!! Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - P5se Camelback - 11-12-2010 ENVY!
Nice score my friend! They will give you a leg up when it comes to placing examples of industrial architecture on the layout. The nice little house is a bonus! Kurt is obviously a man of his word ... and right off the bat, I was lovin' it just because of the name on the box! Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - Gary S - 11-12-2010 Great stuff, eh, biL? This just goes to show how great the folks at Big Blue are! Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - Puddlejumper - 11-12-2010 Holy........ Is that the industrial building that Kurt did a photo essay on here at The Gauge for his Miami layout? I mean... in all seriousness... if it IS the building I am thinking of... and I'm pretty sure it is... then you have acquired a true masterpiece built by a master craftsman. I am jealous! Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - Gary S - 11-12-2010 PJ, it is ALL FIVE of Kurt's MIami layout buildings, plus the house! Nice score! Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - Steamtrains - 11-12-2010 WoW and Youssa..!!! You really lucked out....Was this a surprise..?? or what...?? Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - e-paw - 11-12-2010 That is some real great stuff. nice score . Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - steinjr - 11-12-2010 Wow - what a combination - Kurt's excellent buildings and Gary's nice big great looking layout! And how good that those buildings will get reused on a new layout, instead of languishing in a box somewhere. Smile, Stein Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - Gary S - 11-12-2010 steinjr Wrote:And how good that those buildings will get reused on a new layout, instead of languishing in a box somewhere. That is what Kurt said. He would rather see the buildings being used on a layout instead of packed away in a box. I'm sure glad he felt that way! Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - doctorwayne - 11-12-2010 I dunno Gary: the buildings are great, of course, but having to take Kurt's cat in order to get them is a high price to pay. Wayne Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - Gary S - 11-12-2010 Good one, DocWayne! But the package was over 2 weeks in transit, kitty probably wouldn't have survived.... Interesting story about the cat, our across-the-street neighbors got that cat as a kitten about 6 years ago, but instead of staying at their house, she adopted us! We never fed her, but we did pet her and show her affection, and she just took to us. She would go home to eat, and then come back to our house and spend the time with us. Then about two years ago, the neighbors were moving, so we went over to ask about the cat, and they said they realized along time ago that the cat was really ours, and that we could keep her if we wanted her. She's a great kitty, smart, affectionate to us and our Pomeranian, yet a viscious hunter when it comes to mice and lizards. So, only buildings in the box, no kitty... Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - ocalicreek - 11-13-2010 Quote:So, only buildings in the box, no kitty... If she's anything like our cat, she'll be in the box as soon as the buildings are out and the coast is clear. Christmas in November indeed! Those buildings should look great in Texas, don'tcha think? Galen Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - Gary S - 11-13-2010 Galen, the buildings absolutely will look great in Texas! Re: Big package arrived on my doorstep! - P5se Camelback - 11-13-2010 Isn't the brick building to the right of the cute little house the one that, on Kurt's layout,
had a cat sitting on the stoop at the top of the steps outside the door? |
