An Atlas HH600 repaint - Jon Grant 4472 - 01-04-2011 I recently purchased an Atlas HH600 with sound/DCC in NYC livery. Unfortunately #805 is post-renumbering and the lettering was too late for the period I wanted to model (the photos I found still showed the loco in the old number and lettering after 1940.) The Belt Railway of Chicago (BRC) purchased three HH600s in 1934 and 1935 and this livery would be more suited to Sweethome Chicago, so I decided to repaint the loco. After a plea for photos, I received photos of #302 and 303, both of which showed significant detail differences from the Atlas model, and which would take major surgery to correct, I decided to do the repaint anyway, especially as it was so difficult to find the detail photos in the first place. Here is the finished repaint. Jon Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - Ralph - 01-04-2011 NICE!!!! That is so well done I don't even mind seeing the NYC logo go away. The flat black and weathering make the loco so real looking in your photos! Ralph Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - P5se Camelback - 01-04-2011 It's a real beauty, Jon!
Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - Herc Driver - 01-04-2011 Very nicely done!!! Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - e-paw - 01-04-2011 great job on the Alco, I need to pick up one of those for my self.. Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - torikoos - 01-05-2011 That looks great, and the scenery is beautiful too. Great job! Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - Jon Grant 4472 - 01-05-2011 Thanks for that guys A quite simple and rewarding re-lettering and weathering job that has produced a nice little loco in a short space of time A few more photos of the HH600 switching at Sweethome. Jon Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - Jon Grant 4472 - 01-05-2011 By the way, I hope to get a short video clip of the HH600 uploaded at the weekend. Jon Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - iis612 - 01-05-2011 A thing of Beauty!! Very nicely done Jon. Matt Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - cn nutbar - 01-05-2011 Outstanding scenery, modelling and photography---WOW Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - Jon Grant 4472 - 01-12-2011 Video uploaded to You Tube tonight, showing the BRC Alco HH600 switching at Sweethome Chicago East Yard. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQAx-cuyNEE I'm dismantling the layout tomorrow to take to St Albans Model Railway show at the weekend http://www.cmra.org.uk/stalbans.html Jon Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - rrinker - 01-12-2011 Those last three photos - you took the module outside and photographed it against real trees, right? Wow, that is absolutely outstanding. I'm sure some outsiders would consider this place full of excessive cheerleading, but it seems to me that the people who get all the kudos here for fine model work MORE than deserve it. I always love looking at the photos of your incredible modules trying to find that one thing that gives it away as a model - and usually fail - the combined quality of the work and the excellent composition of the photos really makes one wonder sometimes. Doesn't hurt that I always liked Alcos. --Randy Re: An Atlas HH600 repaint - P5se Camelback - 01-12-2011 Randy ... you really need to "subscribe" to Jon's YouTube videos and watch his tutorial on how to make those trees ... the ones that are not there because he moved the module outside ... because he didn't ... those trees are on the module! Jon also has a "Tree Toot" right here on Big Blue! |
