Atlas buys Branchline's Inventory. - Brakie - 01-26-2011

Folks looks like Atlas just up their notch in the model train market by buying Branch-Lines inventory.

According to the Atlas Moderator there is very little details regarding the agreement at this time.

As William Bendix would say:" What a revoltin' development this is!"

I wonder if Atlas will sell the kits or have them assembled?

Branch-Line will sell building kits.

Before long there will be no cheap entry level trains available. I don't like the junk train sets, but they whet the appetite of the youngster and get them interested. Where will the customers and model railroaders be in a few years? Playing more video games, and Walthers, Horizon, Atlas, and all the rest will be gone, and we will be back to where we were in the 1930's, scratchbuilding and enjoying model railroading. I feel that the prices are getting out of line with the market right now, but I'm cheap. Nope

I think all of the Atlas freight cars and locomotives are put together in China. Unless Atlas sends the Branchline kits to China for assembly and then has them shipped back to the states in assembled form, would expect to see them release the kits.

I built the 4 sleepers that I bought but when I put them on the track they wouldn't round a 56 inch radius curve without derailing. I did a lot of Internet research and everyone seemed to be saying build them and display them. I did a little cutting on the bottom for clearance and that still didn't help until I took the trucks off and discovered that where they were mounted the body was concave and allowed no flexing of the truck at all. took some moto tool work, but made the pocket convex by cutting the material away from the area of the truck mounting screw and this allowed the truck to have side and up and down clearance and now they will make it through a number 4 turnout, and a number 6 crossover without problems with all 4 coupled together.
These are darned nice cars, but the retail prices would never have attracted me at all.

Confuscious say: "Buy now; play later." 8-)

BTW - it's a lot worse for those of us who model n N-scale.
