Some amazing old photos - ezdays - 12-29-2011
Here is a collection of old color photos from the late 30's, early 40's. There's a total of 70, all impressive, but photos #46-57 are all railroad related.

Other sites have copied them, but in respect to the Denver Post and any copyright issues, I'm just providing a link. For us older folk, there's a touch of nostalgia there.

Those photos are not copyright Denver Post. That is a selection from the FSA/OWI (Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information) photo collection in the Library of Congress.

What a terrific collection of Americana! Some really convey a lot of meaning and spirit. Several would make good reference pics for modlers of the period with the store fronts, etc. Very interesting!

Yep. And in particular the pictures Jack Delano took of railroads during WW2 for the Office of War Information. The man was a brilliant photographer with an eye for railroad subjects: http://www.jiggsy.com/category/image-galleries/photographers/jack-delano
Shorpy (http://www.shorpy.com/) also has a wealth of pictures worth seeing - especially from the early years of the 1900s. One of my favorites is the series of panoramic pictures from Duluth, MN : http://www.shorpy.com/node/9481 - amazing railroad scenes
And of course, there is things like the Norfolk and Western image collection, or the Visual Records of the Minnesota Historical Society and many others.
