Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - mountaingoatgreg - 01-04-2012 I have a few projects sitting around, but the one that will be the most productive in the long run is the benchwork for a Free-mo module I have had sitting around at my place. I am not even sure what the original plan of the module even was when built, but I have it and I should do something with it. Prototype: The main feature will be the Hudson House Grocery Distributor located on a spur off the mainline. I am still trying to gather information about this area, but between the building and some other kits I have sitting around I am just going to fill in the blanks for now. Here is a picture of the building today, it was changed from a wood exterior to Cinder clock in 1983. The Design: Nice and simple pretty much explains itself this is an HO scale module measuring 24" X 48" The challenge: A much as I would like to say get it all done, I realize it is probably not likely. My goal is to have the module operational with basic scenery completed ( landforms, ground cover, ballast, roadways) I will also have the Hudson House building built and able to be placed on the layout. Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - mountaingoatgreg - 01-06-2012 An over view shot of the benchwork Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - Tyson Rayles - 01-06-2012 Greg I'm not getting a pic in your second post? Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - mountaingoatgreg - 01-07-2012 ++ FIXED+++ Helps if you put the right amount of tags on the photo Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - Tyson Rayles - 01-07-2012 Yep, I can see the pic fine now. Looks like it will be a fairly straight forward project. Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - mountaingoatgreg - 01-14-2012 PROGRESS!!! Ok I glued down some cork and laid the track on top of it to get an idea of what I am dealing with, but it is progress!! Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - mountaingoatgreg - 01-17-2012 Mocking up the scene and making some modifications... I was able to figure out that the warehouse will be a three car spot, so that is some good news. Net I discovered the gas station needed to go to the other side of the tracks, and it will be built on its own base then inserted in the layout later. I have figured out the road and the sidewalk. This week my goal is to get all the pink foam in place. Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - sailormatlac - 01-18-2012 Nice Greg, interesting to see that large suburban warehouses have their place on small layouts. I'm looking forward to see your Service Station built. Matt Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - Tyson Rayles - 01-18-2012 You are making good time Greg! Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - faraway - 01-18-2012 Looks great. You make me thinking to do a layout in segments in the future. Must be nice to put a single segment on the desk and work in a very relaxed position. Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - mountaingoatgreg - 01-18-2012 Matt: I think that it will make a neat stand alone layout and will look even better when added to a larger set up. I have been enjoying a lot of the Micro layouts, this really does not qualify, but it is small, will have lots to look at and can be stand alone if I choose to. Mike: I seem to be on a role, I probably won't be able to keep up this pace, but I can always hope!! Reinhard: I am glad I have gone back to the Free-mo modules, although I do not have the ability to build anymoe benchwork right now the two I have will keep me busy for some time. I will say it is nice to turn move and manipulate the benchwork as needed instead of having to work around it. When I get to wiring I usually set them up on their side on a table and do all the wiring there, beats laying under a layout for a day. Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - mountaingoatgreg - 01-18-2012 MMMMM foam.... Addded a little foam and got the road and sidewalk mocked up, I think I will start tackeling the switch and track next. Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - sailormatlac - 01-18-2012 Greg, your street and sidewalk are perfectly fitted with the turnout! Just enough to clear the guard rail!!! Matt Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - sailormatlac - 01-22-2012 Greg, just seen your Gas Station kit, it's a very nice '30s structure! Hope to see it evolves in the '60s. Matt Re: Mountaingoatgreg 2012 New Years Challenge - doctorwayne - 01-22-2012 Like Matt said, it's nice to see a large structure planned for your layout module. I notice that your turnout has regressed somewhat from an earlier photo : is that a Central Valley turnout kit you're using now? Wayne |
