I know it is old school but I use it in my scenery. I have a question for the rest of the old farts here (maybe young ones also). I know to use glycerin on it to keep it from drying out, But do I mix it with water and how often should it be applied?

I found a reference in the May 1954 issue of MR indicating that it should be done about once a year (or sooner if you notice it drying out). MR recommended mixing it with water but did not give a ratio. I'll keep checking.

Update: In the Feb. 58 issue they recommend 1:1 ratio of water/glycerin.
Update #2: In the Nov. 89 issue a recommendation is made for 1 part glycerin to 4 parts alcohol.

In 1969, I started using Polyester fiber ( pillow stuffing, white ), and home made, ground and died foam rubber, for trees and bushes. I never was able to accept the concept of "re-treating" my scenery, every year.That, and I was never really thrilled with the look of Lychen based scenery.
I did, in 1974, use Asparagus fern for the branches on some scratch built conifers, that looked really good.........I now, after 38 years, have some realistic "dead" pine trees.
