New board for Sweethome Alabama - Jon Grant 4472 - 03-04-2012 I just finished the scenery on a new board for Sweethome Alabama, in preparation for Nottingham show in under a fortnight. This entailed adding a 4ft extention to an existing short board and adds a river crossing to the layout. It took just under three weeks to complete from start to finish and included making the trees. Although there are no turnouts on the board, the track in the foreground will eventually lead to a small asphalt plant, which will hide the left hand fiddle yard. I'll start at the end with some photos of the finished scenery I still have the lighting rig and fascia board to build and the fiddle yard ro rebuild. The electrics also need attention Jon Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - cn nutbar - 03-04-2012 Another work of art Jon Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - sailormatlac - 03-04-2012 Greenery master again! You reconciled me with small pony truss bridges... They look awesome! Matt Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - lears2005 - 03-04-2012 Man that is looking great Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - Tyson Rayles - 03-05-2012 Very nice work! Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - doctorwayne - 03-05-2012 I really like the greenery, Jon, and the way the modelled scene blends so well with the backdrop. Did you make those eagles, or are they a commercial item? Wayne Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - ezdays - 03-05-2012 That's impressive, I love scenery like this.... Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - MasonJar - 03-05-2012 I especially like the timber overpass - I have one still in kit form that intend to use on a module at some point. Best scenery work I've seen anywhere... Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - shortliner - 03-05-2012 Wayne - I made the eagles after the layouts first show at Newcastle where I had the pleasure of helping operate - it really is a superb job of modelling. There is a fifth one flying past further down the tree Jack Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - Jon Grant 4472 - 03-06-2012 Here is a potted progress over the last three weeks. The photos are pretty much self-explanatory. Jon Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - secondhandmodeler - 03-06-2012 Jon, once again your variation of vegetation blows me away! I think that is what stands out the most to me in your Alabama layout. Most of us have a few types of trees in a few colors. You have a mix like the real world. Plus, the textures of products used are as varied as the colors. Nice work! Cheers, I used the trees on the photographic backscene as inspiration Jon Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - sailormatlac - 03-06-2012 That downgraded spur line is very nice. You dead vegetal debris along the track are quite realistic. What did you use? Matt Re: New board for Sweethome Alabama - shortliner - 03-07-2012 Doctor Wayne asked about the eagles - it seems another had hatched it was "radio-tagged" by local conservationists, and left the area. It has apparently been tracked to Alaska |
