TH&B Consolidation Loco near Hamilton - RobertInOntario - 03-11-2012

Today, my family & I visited the Westfield Heritage (Pioneer) Village near Hamilton (http://www.conservationhamilton.ca/welc ... ge-village).

We really enjoyed this village. One of the highlights for my youngest son & me was that they had a 1910 Toronto, Hamilton & Buffalo Consolidation steam loco there on display, along with a caboose, signals, a station on two sidings of track. The loco was in excellent condition and, the way the display was set up, it looked as if the loco could steam away from the station any moment!

Here are a few pix along with some info about the loco and a pic of yours truly.

I should get up there to see the old girl, too. I remember her from when she was on display in Hamilton's Gage Park...

...and not in especially good condition:

Of course, I probably saw her when she was still in-service, too, as our house faced the TH&B's tracks in Hamilton. Wink

Thanks for that post, Wayne, especially the pix. I thought she looked in quite good condition. Was I not looking carefully enough or have they done some restoration work in recent years?

You're right, Rob, it's not near as bad as it looked when they took it out of the park, which was several years after I took those pictures. The volunteers did a great job of restoring her looks. Until the TH&B got their two Bershires, the Consolidations were their "big power". Eek It's too bad one of them wasn't saved - they were the only two of their type belonging to a Canadian road.

Thanks, Wayne. When I saw it on Sunday, I even wondered if could be restored so that it could be steamed up again.

I have the newspaper clippings of the day she was moved and how funny it looked going up the mountain access backwards on a float . If I remember Aldershot equipment moved her . If someone wants to scan the clips to post here let me know . Im not very good at doing those kinds of things . Great pictures of her anyway Robert . MartygG

Thanks -- I took lots! The day & conditions were ideal.
