It doesn't stop does it? As an old Jersey boy, I do have compassion for those still back there. We don't get the coverage that you do there, but I've been following things as best I can on Foxnews.com. About 90% of our local news is either fluff or sports anyway so they're no help.

Yeah, sometimes it's hard to tell the difference between the two. They've even migrated to the commercials. We had one jock that was pitching for the local electric company that was so annoying, I actually cheered when he left to play for the LA Lakers.
Local TV coverage for this train wreck was about a five-second video with voice-over comments on one or two broadcasts. The fluffy stuff seems to go on and on, and they show it over and over for days.
Oh yeah, they did give us on-location coverage of Sandy by sending a reporter from Phoenix to NJ so he could stand it the middle of the hurricane with a rain slick on and get blown away while on camera for all us back home to see. 
I'll bet there was a few hundred more just like that guy....

I actually have played a very small role in this.
Today at work, I was rebuilding the GM V8 blower for the either the crane or the tugboat's diesel engine that is going down from new york to go fix the bridge.
It was actually pretty satisfying, since the blower wasn't in aweful shape, and other than one particularly frustrating gasket on the gear end cover, was smooth sailing.

Again, last night's news started off with close to 15 minutes of college football review and talking about what games are coming up, and then there was another five-second piece with an overhead video of the wreck. No mention of the evacuation, just a voice-over about, which came first, the bridge collapse or the derailment. If it wasn't for you guys keeping us current, I would have been left with the impression that it was a minor, "incident". Something about seeing cars hanging from a bridge and in the water plus people being evacuated, does make it a bit more serious then they make it sound around here. Oh yeah, fortunately, it was a one-hour newscast so they were able to get in a bit of fluff and yes, another ten or so minutes more of sports.
Are my priorities screwed up or are theirs?

Another "blurb" - One evacuee said that Conrail is footing the bill for all Hotel stays and all meals - The evacuees have to save their meal receipts and will be reimbursed
They have been told to prepare to stay in Hotels possibly until Tuesday....

Latest news:
The engineer tried to "key" the signal to green 3 times... the conductor walked the bridge to make sure everything was fine... They both agreed it was ok...
The engineer called the dispatcher to get the "go ahead" and it was given.... He brought the train through the red signal... A few engines and a few cars made it across safe before the section of the bridge collapsed.
The NTSB is also looking in to the possibility that Hurricane Sandy may have damaged the bridge... They are beginning to pump out the Vinyl Chloride and it "could be a week" before the evacuees are allowed to return to their homes.....
