Power Pooling - Kanawha - 12-02-2012 To the best of anyone's knowledge, did the C&O ever pool or share motive power in the steam era with the NKP or any other railroads? I've seen some diesel era pictures where they did. Thanks! Re: Power Pooling - Kanawha - 12-02-2012 I know they were both Van Sweringen railroads, so maybe? Re: Power Pooling - Lester Perry - 12-21-2012 I know they borrowed power from PRR for some testing locomotive designs. In 1955 they leased ten 4-8-4 s from RF&P. Also the PRR tested and used the design of the T1 2-10-4 to build their J1 &J1a. That is about all I can help you with. Seeing both was a Van Sweringen railroads I suspect that may have happen due to coal business upswings on the C&O but,C&O was a rather proud road that preferred their locomotives-until the CSX took over and still C&O units was held for use on C&O property. I had photos of faded C&O GP40s leading freshly painted CSX units on C&O trains out of Russell,Ky. :o On could say the C&O didn't go silently into the history books thanks to her proud employees. Re: Power Pooling - Lester Perry - 12-22-2012 The C&O is still hanging in there. The C in CSX is for Chessie, note it is CSX not SCX. They have several divisions one of which is the Huntington division which is basically the old C&O route. Re: Power Pooling - Brakie - 12-23-2012 Lester Perry Wrote:The C&O is still hanging in there. There's lots of the old C&O left The Northern div-Limeville* to Toledo, the Cincinnati Div-Limeville to Queensgate, the Big Sandy Div just to name a few.. Limeville is where the Northern and Cincinnati divisions split off the Russell sub.All Northern and Cincinnati division crews was qualified on the Russell sub..It was a time table division more then anything. Re: Power Pooling - Lester Perry - 12-23-2012 I think they call the Huntington division C&O division. I will check the next time I am there. Re: Power Pooling - Kanawha - 01-19-2013 Thanks all! I guess what I was really wondering is if you would ever see, for example, an NKP Berkshire double heading with a C&O Kanawha or something like that. |
