Another marathon train ride on TV - Svein - 12-21-2012

Earlier we've had both the Bergen line and the Flåmsbana line (as well as The Coastal Express, but that's a boat ride) broadcasted real-time on Norwegian television. This Christmas, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Nordlandsbanen line, there will be a nearly ten hour broadcast from the longest railway line in Norway. The 729 kilometer line between Trondheim and Bodø, crossing the Arctic Circle and containing 295 bridges and 154 tunnels, will be shown in its entirety on Norwegian television channel NRK2 on December 29th, and hopefully it will also be available on web TV. The program was recorded beforehand, and will show all four seasons of the year during the trip.

Here's a link to an article on the NRK website (Norwegian text only, but with a preview of the show, a couple of historical clips, and a video showing how the program was made):

Here's the program as shown on TV, divided into ten segments. Click on "Alle sendinger" below the video frame to list all segments:

And here's an interactive version. You can zoom in and out on the map, click on the map to jump directly to that point, and change view between the four seasons (or view all four seasons simultaneously):

That's a neat video! I like all the tunnels.. It's interesting how they have snow on one side of a tunnel and no snow at the other end or vice verse Smile Smile
