Posting Photos - Sumpter250 - 12-11-2008

I like the procedure for posting photos here. It took a bit to become familiar with the process, but I find it friendlier than most others, and much easier to add photos and mix text. For a "Non-PC" ( in more ways than just computers) person, the process is quite intuitive, and easy to figure out. Thumbsup Thumbsup Cheers

Well then Pete, how about a blow by blow description of how to post a picture directly into a post ?? Wink
I have several pics which might interest members but I'm not going to experiment and have text only posts with silly blank picture areas or error codes or whatever.

I'd like to post jpg's directly from my hard drive to whatever post I happen to be making at the time.

Please, pretty please Smile

What the heck! I'm going to experiment 35

I hope this works

Re: Posting Photos - kettlestack - 12-16-2008

Posting an attachment for a jpg of 800 x 599 and 82KB didn't work! Nope

Re: Posting Photos - nolatron - 12-16-2008

The file size must be under 75KB, which is a little low to me. 300-400KB might be better IMO.

Re: Posting Photos - railohio - 12-16-2008

I've never understood why people in a hobby with thirty dollar cars and hundred-plus dollar engines can't spring a little for their own photo hosting. I have my own web hosting and domain name and thus don't need to watch out for file size limits. Not having to host photos saves the guys who run this site a ton of hosting and file transfer fees. Honestly, guys, is it too much to spend $10 a month to do this?

Re: Posting Photos - kettlestack - 12-16-2008

railohio, I understand what you're saying and in principle I agree with you.

I too have my own domain and hobbies website, I'm not absolutely certain it's a good idea to let everyone know your URL though just as it is important to be careful of who you divulge your main isp e-mail address to.

I know I'm Scottish but I'm not really a tight-wad 357

Re: Posting Photos - kettlestack - 12-16-2008

As an afterthought I think I'll explain another reason for posting direct to the forum. If pictures are worth posting for the benefit of others then pictures posted direct to the forum will be there as long as the forum is operational. Who knows? I might change my domain in future years resulting in newcomers not being able to see the previously posted "linked" pictures.

I used to have my own site hosted by my isp and I'm sure I had linked pictures from it to the old Gauge. My isp disbanded their ftp enabled webspace so as to have their customers buy the isp's web designer program. I will NOT be held to ransom by marketing managers! Result:- All previously posted "linked" pics I made to forums was lost.

It is not for me to judge whether or not those lost pics were of value to anyone in particular but they included a couple of scale drawings for old time buildings and "how-to" articles.

I would still like to see a Blow by blow description ----- My experiment didn't work well at all & I have no idea what you are talking about when saying things about a hosting service . Help please .

Here's a video showing how to attach a photo. Pardon the watermark, but hopefully it gives you a general idea.

I just watch the video and I think that is what I am doing (although you open file dialog window looks different then mine). I will try again here with a test picture.

No picture here. 790_smiley_picking_a_fight
The jpg file was 800x718 47K in size.

I'll try a smaller one here that is 600x238 11K in size:

Whoopie!!! Thumbsup it worked.

So what is the size limit on uploaded images?
