I wasn't joking - my project is to finish last year's project! Icon_lol

I really have no excuse for not getting this done. All that was left to do was to complete the hotel. I have the materials. And it shouldn't be too much additional work. So, my goals:

1) Hotel building completed.
2) No bare ground on this end of the layout.
3) Rock wall completed in front of hotel.
4) Some details, LPBs, etc added so the hotel looks a little active, blends into the scene, and doesn't just look like a completed building shell resting on uncompleted terrain.

Here is where I am starting from. I already had the terrain for the hotel foundation done, but I had stopped before finishing the stairwell and rockwork out front. The terrain was built from foam, and I had hoped to smear a thin layer of plaster on top of the foam and carve it into rocks. It's working out okay, but if the plaster veneer is too thin, my scribing tool pokes through and I need to patch things up. In hindsight, I should have cast and carved the rocks in molds on the workbench, and glued them to the layout. But, I have come too far to turn back now.

The main shell and roof of the hotel is done, but it needs much finishing work.

The front of the hotel will have a stucco veneer. To make this, I cut some sheet styrene to match the size and window spacing from the brick Model Power kit and glued it to the front. The top has a mission type profile. I needed to make the top appear as if it was a thick wall instead of thin styrene, so I built up layers. SInce it takes time to cut all the curves, I made the profile of the center layer straight and slightly smaller, and made the back layer match the front profile. I glued it to the back of the veneer as a sandwich.

Next, I glued a styrene "cap" on top of the veneer sandwich, creating a relief.

Wow. That turned out really well.

Hmm, the architecture looks very familiar, been to Winslow and the La Posada (Harvey House) lately? Big Grin I love that style, can't wait to see how this progresses... Thumbsup Thumbsup

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I agree, the work I did came out well. I'm thinking of adding a little trim around the windows because the fronts look a little too flat and plain to me. It is an attempt to kinda/sorta kitbash a prototype structure on the cheap. Or at least make something interesting looking that creates an impression and looks interesting.

Cheers Nicely done!! Creative problem solving approach too.

I promise an update soon. I've been adding some stucco to the front of the hotel and worked on the foundation some. But I have also now had the flu TWICE in the last month (the current one feels like some kind of superflu), and my girlfriend moved in for the time being. My time has been totally allocated the past few weeks.

Don't blame you on that. It seems to be all over town right now including us and our family. It can take you down hard, so get better, we'll still be here and you still have a good month to finish up.

You need some hand sanitizer!

I was thinking the other day, as I messed around with some HOn3 stuff, that you're pizza box boxcar is probably one of my favorite builds of all-time. As a side note, my first 3D printed HOn3 truck arrives tomorrow. I hope that I correctly sized it to accept Kadee wheelsets.
