How often does this happen? - RobertInOntario - 02-02-2013

There is large O-scale layout / club in Toronto called the Model Railway Club of Toronto. The bad news is that they are being forced to move from their current location in downtown Toronto. The good news is that they're moving to a new site in the east end of Toronto, which is very close to where I live! http://www.modelrailroadclub.com/MRCT/Welcome.html

Basically, our neighbourhood is close to an industrial area, and that's where they're moving to.

I've enjoyed seeing their layouts in the past but I'm not into O-gauge (I'm into British 00 and North American HO). However, this might be too tempting to ignore -- i.e. I'm going to be tempted to either visit a lot or even join.

That's a seriously impressive layout they have currently Rob Confusedhock:

If they were moving into my neighbourhood I'd definitely be joining just for the opportunity to operate it even though I only model HO or N scale.

I imagine it will be interesting times for them rebuilding into a new location, but that is an ideal time to join.

Cheers,

Kev

Thanks, Kev. There is also a DIY (Home Depot) store practically next door to their new site, so they will have no problem getting supplies! On the down side, I'm not sure if I can afford their membership fees. It's not unreasonable at all, but I couldn't really justify the cost. I'll have to see how things take shape in case they have other membership options.

I think that move will be a big job ...don't envy that at all ! Nice looking web page .

I just found out it's even closer! I could walk there in 5 minutes. The local LHS (Hornet Hobbies) is abuzz with the news as well. This is probably the biggest train club in Canada & it'll be right under my nose. I'll have to seriously look into membership options.

Five minutes walk! Result! How much is their membership fee? Local (ish) club I just found and am thinking of joining is £40 (about $60). Not too bad.

Cheers,

Kev

Hi Kev,

Yes, their monthly fee is $60 , so it looks not bad -- I'll just have to do some re-budgeting.

Since you live so close , Robert , you could offer your services as a night watchman .....offset the monthly fee . 357

I work from home anyway, so maybe I could set up an office in their building & just work through the night. That way, I could do my regular work & be a night watchman?!

Sounds like a plan Robert ...kill 2 birds with 1 stone, as it were !
