I dont know when I will start building, but hopefully before the end of the year (for me thats quite optimistic ) Do you model any specific country in Europe? What I find attractive about modern European freight trains is that much of the same rolling stock can be seen all over Europe so whatever you country you choose you have almost unlimited options when it comes to what freight cars you want to run. Looking forward to see what you might have planned. You would normally need a crane like this to handle the coils, although a heavy duty forklift can also be used. There's no rails there now but aerials do show rails used to be there. But he can still model it w/ a crane if he wants to. But not sure if he still wants to do stell coils now. There is the wig wag signal Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - Yngve - 12-20-2013 Its been a while since I've posted in this thread. No construction yet, but I've done quite a bit of fine-tuning to the trackplan. I have removed one turnout and also angled some of the tracks to make it visually more attractive. Trackplan explanation: A - warehouse (2 spots) B - Propane gas (with locked gate) C - team track D - steel industry (various steel in, mainly coils, scrap steel out) In addition the track next to track A can also be used for various loading/unloading, for example lumber. Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - Mike Kieran - 12-20-2013 It's a great plan. I agree with Ed in that I would make the warehouse take up the whole back of the layout. Other than that, it's a great layout. Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - FCIN - 12-20-2013 Very nice plan! Even switching 3 or 4 cars in and out of the industries should give you a nice hour long switching session, not to mention the fun you'll have building and detailing the structures. Bigger isn't better! Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - sailormatlac - 12-20-2013 Yep, I agree, very simple, yet very well balanced. Calls for a nice scenic layout. Matt Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - Mike Kieran - 12-21-2013 Perfection!!! Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - Yngve - 07-25-2014 It has been a long time since I have written anything in this thread, but now things are actually happening! :o Thank you very much for all your feedback! I have been wanting to do a switching layout for several years, but I have constantly been changing my mind on the trackplan. Thank to your feedback I'm still sticking with the trackplan I posted end of last year. (pardon the mess ) Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - Tyson Rayles - 07-25-2014 Great to see you getting started! Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - Yngve - 07-26-2014 Thank you Mike! I have been busy today and got pretty much all the trackwork done, just some minor things remaining before I start working under the layout. I placed some rolling stock on the track and I'm very pleased with how it looks. My goal from the very beginning was to avoid having a layout cluttered with track and I feel I have achieved that goal. Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - Catt - 07-26-2014 Looks like progress. Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - Brakie - 07-27-2014 Catt Wrote:Looks like progress. That's what I like about small ISLs..You can build them over a weekend. I like the size of that layout since it has room for lots of detailing. Re: New small ISL trackplan - need feedback - Yngve - 08-18-2014 It is with great pleasure that I can announce that since about one hour ago my layout has been fully operational. Everything is working smoothy so far *knock on wood*. I have used Bullfrog Turnout control from Fast Tracks to control the turnouts. I have even started operating the layout. The first session was starting with empty tracks and simply placing some cars. This alone took about 10 minutes, so with some cars to pull it's going to be tons of fun operating this layout. |
